Wil To Win is a Philippine television variety and game show broadcast by TV5. Hosted by Willie Revillame, it began its live television broadcast on July 14, 2024 on a Sunday and from thereafter regular programming started airing on weekdays on the network's Todo Max Primetime Singko line up.

Background

Revillame was the main presenter for Wowowin , which aired on GMA Network and ALLTV from 2015 to 2023, and for Wowowee , which aired on ABS-CBN from 2005 to 2010. [1] [2] He previously also hosted Wil Time Bigtime and Wowowillie on TV5 from 2010 to 2013. On June 14, 2024, Revillame announced his new program, Wil To Win, would air on TV5, marking his return to the network after eleven years. [3]

Wil To Win is produced by MediaQuest Ventures, which Revillame partnered with in April 2024. [4]

Wil To Win had a grand launch dubbed as "WIL-come Back Party" which aired on TV5 on July 14, 2024, [5] [6] before officially premiering on July 15 on its regular programming on Mondays to Fridays at 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (PST), right after the Korean drama Catch the Ghost. [7] and before the primetime newscast Frontline Pilipinas . But later, it is moved to an earlier, longer timeslot at 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (PST) starting July 29, 2024. [8]

On September 16, 2024, the show is reverted back to 5:00 p.m. timeslot.

The Hello Pappy scandal, alluding to the nickname of television personality Willie Revillame and the Hello Garci scandal, was a scandal surrounding an incident during the August 20, 2007, episode of the Filipino variety show Wowowee, broadcast by ABS-CBN. During the episode, a technical error occurred during the final jackpot round of the show's "Wilyonaryo" segment which raised allegations within the media that the segment was, or could have been, rigged by the producers. The incident prompted an investigation by the country's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and was also the catalyst of an on-air feud between Revillame and Joey de Leon, a personality from the rival GMA Network.

In the Philippines, variety television shows have become mainstays of the noontime slot for network programming since 1958. The first Philippines noontime variety television shows were influenced by the popularity of bodabil (vaudeville) in the first half of the 20th century. Since then, the format has evolved with the changing times, with elements of reality television also incorporated as well since the 2000s. Majority of the noontime variety shows that aired on television were produced independently by blocktimers that pay a certain amount of time to television networks to air their program. Some TV networks though have managed to solely produce these kind of programs, with moderate success in terms of ratings and advertising revenues.
