The Air Force District of Washington (AFDW) is a Direct Reporting Unit of the United States Air Force. AFDW oversees Air Force operations in the Washington, D.C. region.
The United States Air Force Expeditionary Center is the Air Force's Center of Excellence for advanced expeditionary combat support training and education. It consists of nine units with more than 14,000 Airmen in 28 countries worldwide.

Previously, he was the Command Surgeon of the Air Combat Command. Raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Murphy graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1981 with a B.S. degree in biology. He then went on to earn his M.D. degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1985 and to complete his residency in pediatrics at the Air Force Medical Center at Keesler Air Force Base in 1988.
