William M. Beavers (born February 21,1935) is a former Democratic politician from Illinois,US. He is a former Chicago alderman and former County Commissioner for the 4th district of Cook County,Illinois,which encompasses part of Chicago's South Side and southern suburbs. He has been convicted of federal tax evasion. [1]
Beavers was born and raised in Chicago's Kenwood-Oakland neighborhood,one of six children in an African-American family. Beavers' mother worked in retail and as a waitress. Beavers' father was a steel mill worker. Later,Beavers' father worked for a wrecking company and died in an accident on the job. [2] Beavers was educated in the Chicagos and attended Harold Washington College. [3] Beavers was a Chicago police officer for 21 years. [4] [3]
Beavers was an alderman of the 7th Ward in Chicago's far south side. A member of the Democratic Party,he served in the Chicago City Council from 1983 to 2006.
Beavers said he had read Linda Lovelace's autobiography Ordeal,and had visited a topless beach and a nude beach,but had never visited a nudist camp,speaking on April 11,2000 during testimony at a public hearing before the Finance Committee of the Chicago City Council on a proposed designation of a part of Walton Street in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood,the location of the first Playboy Club,as "Hugh Hefner Way" in honor of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. In 2006,Beavers reportedly engineered a complex deal concerning the retirement of Cook County Board President John Stroger,who suffered a stroke in March of that year. The deal called for Beavers to assume Stroger's County Commissioner seat,Stroger's son,Todd Stroger,to replace his father on the November 2006 ballot as County Board president,and for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley to appoint Beavers' daughter and chief of staff,Darcel Beavers,to her father's 7th Ward seat.[ citation needed ]
On February 23,2012,Beavers was indicted on four federal charges alleging he filed false tax returns and "endeavoring to obstruct and impede" the Internal Revenue Service. [7] [8] Following the indictment,he lashed out against the federal prosecutor. [9] On March 21,2013,Beavers was found guilty of tax evasion and faced a maximum three-year prison term on each of the four tax counts he was found guilty of. [10] Beavers was sentenced to six months in jail,a $10,000 fine,and ordered to pay almost $31,000 in back taxes. [11] In June,2014,the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld his conviction. [12]
Beavers has a son and two daughters. One daughter,Darcel,was his aldermanic chief of staff and was appointed to succeed Beavers as alderman. [2]

Edward Robert Vrdolyak,also known as "Fast Eddie",is a former American politician and lawyer. He was a longtime Chicago alderman and the head of the Cook County Democratic Party until 1987 when he ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Chicago on the Illinois Solidarity Party ticket. He subsequently ran again in 1989 on the Republican Party ticket. He was a prominent opponent of Harold Washington and the de facto leader of the so-called "Vrdolyak 29" that opposed and blocked many of Washington's measures.
Todd H. Stroger is the former president of the Cook County,Illinois Board and a former alderman for the 8th Ward in Chicago. Stroger is a member of the Democratic Party. In 2001,he was appointed to the Chicago City Council by Richard M. Daley. He is the son of John Stroger who served as Cook County Board president for 12 years until his death.

John H. Stroger Jr. was an American politician who served from 1994 until 2006 as the first African-American president of the Cook County,Illinois Board of Commissioners. Stroger was a member of the Democratic Party. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and from 1992 to 1993 served as president of the National Association of Counties. Cook County's Stroger Hospital was renamed in his honor.

Antoin Rezko is an American businessman and convict. He was a fundraiser for Illinois Democratic and Republican politicians. After becoming a major contributor to Rod Blagojevich's successful election for governor,Barack Obama's campaigns,Rezko assisted Blagojevich in setting up the state's first Democratic administration in twenty years and as a result he was able to have business associates appointed onto several state boards. Rezko and several others were indicted on federal charges in October 2006 for using their connections on the state boards to demand kickbacks from businesses that wished to engage in dealings with the state. While the others pleaded guilty,Rezko pleaded not guilty and was tried. He was found guilty of 16 of the 24 charges filed against him and on November 23,2011,he was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison.
Sandra Lee Jackson is an American politician. She was elected to the Chicago City Council as an alderman of the 7th ward of the City of Chicago in the 2007 municipal elections held on February 27,2007. She succeeded Darcel A. Beavers who had been appointed by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley after the 2006 November elections to succeed her father William Beavers,Jackson's rival,as alderman of the 7th Ward. Jackson resigned from Chicago City Council,effective January 15,2013. On February 20,2013,Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of filing false tax returns,and on August 14,2013,was sentenced to one year in prison.
