Belmont is a small suburban city in Gaston County,North Carolina,United States,located about 9 miles (14 km) east of Gastonia. The population was 10,076 at the 2010 census. Once known as Garibaldi Station,it was named for the New York banker August Belmont. Belmont is home to Belmont Abbey College.
Sandra Kay Yow was an American basketball coach. She was the head coach of the NC State Wolfpack women's basketball team from 1975 to 2009. A member of the Naismith Hall of Fame,she had more than 700 career wins. She also coached the U.S. women's basketball team to an Olympic gold medal in 1988 despite having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. In 2000,Yow was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. In 2009,she was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame.

St. Joseph Seminary is a Roman Catholic diocesan Seminary in Charlotte,North Carolina under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Charlotte. The seminary itself is temporarily on the campus of St. Ann Catholic Church in the St. Joseph Monastery formerly used by the Poor Clares,while a more permanent seminary is built near the campus of Belmont Abbey College in 2018. In the meantime,seminarians are commuting regularly to Belmont Abbey for regular core classes.
