Ashland is a city in Ashland and Bayfield counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The city is a port on Lake Superior, near the head of Chequamegon Bay. The population was 7,908 at the 2020 census, all of whom resided in the Ashland County portion of the city. The unpopulated Bayfield County portion is in the city's southwest, bordered by the easternmost part of the Town of Eileen.
Thomas Lynch was an American lawyer and Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Wisconsin. He served two terms in the United States House of Representatives, representing Wisconsin's 9th congressional district. He was also the first mayor of Antigo, Wisconsin, and served two terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Northland College is a private college in Ashland, Wisconsin. Founded as the North Wisconsin Academy in 1892, the college was established in 1906. Originally affiliated with the Congregational Church, the college remains loosely tied to the Congregational Church's descendant, the United Church of Christ. It enrolls 526 full-time undergraduates and employs 60 faculty members and 99 staff members. Northland College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

David Mitchell Suminski was an American football guard in the National Football League for the Chicago Cardinals and the Washington Redskins. Suminski also played 4 seasons in the Canadian Football League (1957–60) with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he twice selected as an All-Star. Suminski was born in Ashland, Wisconsin and graduated from Ashland High School in 1969. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Ferry Morse Seed Company. He died at a hospital in Ashland, Wisconsin.

He was also the 10th mayor of Owatonna, Minnesota, and the first prosecuting attorney of Ashland County, Ohio.
