William Rankin was a Scottish professional football who made over 470 appearances in the Scottish Football League's top division for Motherwell, Cowdenbeath and Clyde, playing at inside right. [4] [5] [6]
He represented the Scottish Football League XI four times [7] and played in two of the annual Home Scots v Anglo-Scots international trial matches, scoring in one, [8] [9] but this did not lead to a full cap for Scotland. In 1921 he was a member of the squad sometimes presented as 'Scotland' which toured North America, but this was organised by the Third Lanark club rather than the Scottish Football Association. Third Lanark Athletic Club was a Scottish football club based in Glasgow. Founded in 1872 as an offshoot of the 3rd Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers, the club was a founder member of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) in 1872 and the Scottish Football League (SFL) in 1890. Third Lanark played in the top division of the SFL for the majority of the club's existence, and won the league championship in 1903–04. The club also won the Scottish Cup twice, in 1889 and 1905. Third Lanark went out of business in 1967, as a result of mismanagement, six years after having finished in third place in the SFL. Third Lanark's former ground, Cathkin Park in Crosshill, is still partially standing and is used for minor league football.

Norman Murray Fairgray was a Scottish professional footballer who played mainly as an outside left for Maxwelltown Volunteers, Kilmarnock, Lincoln City, Chelsea, Motherwell and Queen of the South.
William Frame was a Scottish footballer who played as a left back, although he could also play at left half. He spent six years with Clyde and six with Motherwell. Serving as captain at some points, he was also reported as being on the verge of leaving the club when left out of the team, and eventually fell out of favour at Fir Park and moved to second-tier Dunfermline Athletic. He did not score any goals in over 430 appearances in Scotland's leagues or the Scottish Cup.

William Telfer was a Scottish footballer who played as a left half for Blantyre Celtic, Motherwell, Airdrieonians, Dumbarton and Scotland. He was a member of the Motherwell team that won the club's only Scottish Football League title in 1931–32, missing only one match in that season, and also played in two Scottish Cup finals.
