Astoria is a port city and the seat of Clatsop County,Oregon,United States. Founded in 1811,Astoria is the oldest city in the state and was the first permanent American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains. The county is the northwest corner of Oregon,and Astoria is located on the south shore of the Columbia River,where the river flows into the Pacific Ocean. The city is named for John Jacob Astor,an investor and entrepreneur from New York City,whose American Fur Company founded Fort Astoria at the site and established a monopoly in the fur trade in the early 19th century. Astoria was incorporated by the Oregon Legislative Assembly on October 20,1856.

Keiko was a male orca captured in the Atlantic Ocean near Iceland in 1979,and widely known for his portrayal of Willy in the 1993 film Free Willy. In 1996,Warner Bros. and the International Marine Mammal Project collaborated to return Keiko to the wild. After years of being prepared for reintegration,Keiko was flown to Iceland in 1998 and in 2002,became the first captive orca to be fully released back into the ocean. On 12 December 2003,he died of pneumonia in a bay in Norway at the age of 27.

Saethre–Chotzen syndrome (SCS),also known as acrocephalosyndactyly type III,is a rare congenital disorder associated with craniosynostosis. This affects the shape of the head and face,resulting in a cone-shaped head and an asymmetrical face. Individuals with SCS also have droopy eyelids (ptosis),widely spaced eyes (hypertelorism),and minor abnormalities of the hands and feet (syndactyly). Individuals with more severe cases of SCS may have mild to moderate intellectual or learning disabilities. Depending on the level of severity,some individuals with SCS may require some form of medical or surgical intervention. Most individuals with SCS live fairly normal lives,regardless of whether medical treatment is needed or not.

The state of Oregon has eight electoral votes in the Electoral College,following reapportionment due to the 2020 United States census in which the state gained a seat.
The 2024 Oregon House of Representatives elections were held on Tuesday,November 5,2024. Primary elections were held on Tuesday,May 21,2024. All of the 60 seats of the Oregon House of Representatives were be elected. The elections coincided with the elections for other offices,including for State Senate,as part of the 2024 Oregon elections. Democrats gained one seat,earning a three-fifths supermajority for the first time since the 2020 House election.
