The Winnipeg Freeze are a Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The team was founded in 2020 and is owned by 50 Below Sports + Entertainment Inc, owners of the Western Hockey League's Winnipeg Ice and another MJHL club, the Winnipeg Blues. During their abbreviated inaugural season, the Freeze played their home games at The Rink Training Centre in the Rural Municipality of Macdonald. [1] [2] [3] The Freeze relocated to the Dakota Community Centre in the Winnipeg neighbourhood of St. Vital for the 2021–22 season. [4] Since the 2022-23 season, the team has played its home games at hockey for all centre.

Founded as an expansion Western Hockey League team in 1996 as the Edmonton Ice, the team played in Cranbrook, British Columbia from 1998 to 2019 as the Kootenay Ice. The team moved to Winnipeg ahead of the 2019–20 WHL season, and played home games at Wayne Fleming Arena. Despite success on the ice, a failure to construct a new arena for the team—a condition of the team's move to Winnipeg—led to the team being sold and relocated to Wenatchee, Washington ahead of the 2023–24 season.

The 2019–20 season was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) 103rd year of operation. The league did not have a champion as the season was cancelled midway through the first round of the league playoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
