"Without You" is a song recorded and collaboration between American recording artists Alyx Ander and Mya. An EDM house track, "Without You" was written by Karen Harding, Hayley May, Lee Williams, Ifeoluwa "Maestro The Baker" Oladigbolu, Frederik Geuze, and Mya with production helmed by Alyx Ander. Musically, "Without You" incorporates a grooving piano arrangement and sharp, floor-ready percussion. A standalone single, "Without You" was released September 11, 2020 on Spinnin' Records.
A work in progress, "Without You," a collaboration that had reportedly long been in the works between the two recording artists – took more than a year and a half to complete. [1] The collaboration between the pair started when Alyx Ander reached out and sent the song's idea to the singer, who responded "with a lot of interest," after a third party – Vibe 's editor in chief Datwon Thomas got involved and was responsible for linking the producer and singer together. [2] [3] Optimistic, the collaboration could actually transpire, Alyx Ander continue to stay in contact with the singer's team and reluctantly took a trip to L.A. from his home base in Miami on a whim. [2] [3] Upon the producer's arrival, Mya recorded the unnamed track in an 8-12 hour studio session where 25 different versions of the song was eventually produced. [2] [3] [4] The result, titled "Without You," an electrifying house anthem. [2]
Approximately, two years in the making, "Without You," is an electrifying electronic dance music, house anthem written by Karen Harding, Haley May, Lee Williams, Ifeoluwa "Maestro The Baker" Oladigbolu, Frederik Geuze, and Mya with a common runtime of two minutes and forty-eight seconds. [2] [5] Produced by Alyx Ander with additional production contribution from Frederik Geuze and the singer herself; with its incorporation of grooving piano arrangements and sharp, floor ready percussion, the staff of online publication Dancing Astronaut dubbed "Without You," "a playlist ignitor through and through." [1] [5] Upon its completion and release, Petey Mac of Your EDM deemed the finalized results "spectacular" and noted the track, "can’t help but captivate listeners with Mya’s incredible vocal performance and equally matched production from Alyx Ander to create what feels like an instant hit." [2]
Spinnin Records released "Without You" and its Chill Mix September 11, 2020 on all digital and streaming platforms. Following the single's release and to promote their collaboration, Alyx Ander invited Mya as a guest on his Sirius XM radio show where the pair discussed the tune's collaborative nature and the unforgettable studio session that yielded the new material. [1] With over 25 different versions of the track produced, mixed, and mastered, the following year Alyx Ander had planned to release a ton of new originals and remixes, including an acoustic version of "Without You," that the duo created with students from the University of Miami, however nothing ever materialized.
