Wizz Air Malta is a Maltese low-cost airline and a subsidiary of the Hungarian ultra low-cost airline group Wizz Air Holdings.
The company's AOC was issued by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and its Operating Licence by the Malta Civil Aviation Directorate. [2] It operated its first flight on 27 September 2022 from Rome–Fiumicino to Malta International Airport. [2] It is flying with Maltese-registered aircraft, following in the footsteps of Wizz’s other subsidiaries in Abu Dhabi and the United Kingdom.[ citation needed ]
The first aircraft in the Airline's fleet was an Airbus A321neo with the registration: 9H-WAM. The aircraft first was delivered to Wizz Air Hungary in May 2021 and was formerly registered as HA-LVS. Wizz Air plans to place up to 90 aircraft with its new Maltese entity by the summer of 2024, which will either be new deliveries or reregistered Wizz Air Hungary aircraft.[ citation needed ]
On 15 August 2022, the company named former Ryanair executive Diarmuid Ó Conghaile to be its managing director starting from 1 November 2022. [3]
As of December 2023, Wizz Air uses the Maltese AOC on flights throughout Europe, Morocco, South Caucasus and the Middle East. [4]

Ryanair DAC, the oldest airline of the group, was founded in 1984. Ryanair Holdings was established in 1996 as a holding company for Ryanair with the two companies having the same board of directors and executive officers. In 2019, the transition began from the airline Ryanair and its subsidiaries into separate sister airlines under the holding company. Later in 2019, Malta Air joined Ryanair Holdings.

Buzz was a British low-cost airline operating services within Europe. It was founded in 1999 as a subsidiary of Dutch national airline KLM and began operations on 4 January 2000. After being acquired by Ryanair in April 2003, it ceased operations at the end of October 2004. In 2019, Ryanair revived the Buzz name by rebranding its Polish subsidiary Ryanair Sun.
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, formerly known as Budapest Ferihegy International Airport and commonly denoted as Ferihegy, is the international airport serving the Hungarian capital city of Budapest. It is the largest of the country's four commercial airports, ahead of Debrecen and Hévíz–Balaton. The airport is located 16 kilometres southeast of the center of Budapest and was renamed in 2011 after Hungarian composer Franz Liszt on the occasion of his 200th birthday. The facility covers 1,515 hectares and has two runways.
Centralwings was a charter airline based in Warsaw, Poland. The airline operated as a low-cost airline and then became a charter-only operation in October 2008. It was a subsidiary of LOT Polish Airlines, operating international services in Europe, using Boeing 737 aircraft. Its main base was Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport, with hubs at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport and John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice. On 26 March 2009 the board of LOT Polish Airlines decided to close Centralwings with no information about what was to happen to its employees.
Malta International Airport is the only airport in Malta, and it serves the whole of the Maltese Islands. Former Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda had a minority stake in Amira Air before buying it outright in 2016.
