Eurowings Europe is a low-cost airline registered in Malta. [2] Eurowings Europe operates and maintains aircraft used on flights that are scheduled, marketed and sold by its sister airline, the Germany based Eurowings. Both airlines are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Lufthansa Group. [3]
About a week after obtaining its air operator's certificate from the Austrian civil aviation authorities, Eurowings Europe departed its initial base in Vienna [4] for Alicante on 23 June 2016, its maiden flight. [5] It has adopted the corporate identity of its German sister airline, Eurowings.
In September 2019, Lufthansa Group announced, that Austrian Airlines will lease four Airbus A320-200 from Eurowings Europe starting January 2020. The airline will also take over some of Austrian Airlines' flights from Salzburg Airport and Innsbruck Airport. [6] The Austrian Airlines wet lease contract for four aircraft in Vienna was withdrawn in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In October 2019, Eurowings Europe took over the base in Pristina from its sister airline Germanwings. [7]
In June 2021 it was announced that Eurowings Europe would expand its European network with the opening of a new base in Prague Airport starting October 2021 with two aircraft based for the winter season and three for the summer. Destinations would include European cities in the likes of Barcelona and Milan and holiday destinations such as the Balearics, Canaries and Tel Aviv.
In July 2022 it was announced that Eurowings Europe Gmbh would leave its Austrian registration and it would register in Malta and be renamed as Eurowings Europe Ltd. [8] The move to Malta was expected to lower taxes and cost of operations for the airline, along with reducing income taxes that employees would have to pay. The change took effect on 3 November 2022.
Eurowings Europe operates regional flights throughout Europe. [4] As of 2022, it maintains six bases in Vienna, Salzburg, [3] Palma de Mallorca, Prague, Stockholm Arlanda and Pristina. [7] As of 2022 base Vienna is only a crew base and no aircraft are stationed there. In December 2022, Graz was announced as a summer base, but further extended to an all-year operation due to demand. [9]

Adria Airways d.o.o. was the flag carrier of Slovenia, operating scheduled and charter services to European destinations. The company's head office was at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport in Zgornji Brnik, Cerklje na Gorenjskem, near Ljubljana. On 30 September 2019, the airline declared bankruptcy and ceased all operations.
Germanwings GmbH was a German low-cost airline wholly owned by Lufthansa which operated under the Eurowings brand. It was based in Cologne with hubs at Cologne Bonn Airport, Stuttgart Airport, Hamburg Airport, Berlin Tegel Airport, Munich Airport and further bases at Hannover Airport and Dortmund Airport.
Wizz Air Holdings Plc is a Hungarian ultra low-cost carrier group registered in Jersey. The company includes the subsidiaries Wizz Air Hungary, Wizz Air Malta, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and Wizz Air UK. The airlines serve many cities across Europe, as well as some destinations in North Africa, the Middle East as well as South and Central Asia. Niki was an Austrian low-cost airline headquartered in Office Park I at Vienna International Airport in Schwechat. It operated scheduled and charter services to European and North African leisure destinations from Vienna, Salzburg, Graz and Innsbruck and also started services from several German airports in March 2017. Niki had a variety of owners, including two stints of ownership under Niki Lauda (1949–2019). In January 2018, the airline was acquired by Lauda, an airline that also had ties to Niki Lauda.
InterSky, legally Intersky Luftfahrt GmbH, was an Austrian airline headquartered in Bregenz, which operated scheduled services from its base at Friedrichshafen Airport, Germany, to major cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as seasonal holiday flights to the Mediterranean from other airports. The airline ceased operations on the evening of 5 November 2015 due to financial difficulties.
