Lufthansa Consulting is an international aviation consultancy for airlines, airports and related industries. The company is an independent subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and provides services to the air transportation industry. Their offices are situated at Frankfurt Airport, Germany. [1]

The German consultancy assists aviation-specific client groups including airlines, [2] airports [3] and aviation authorities as well as related industries such as ground handling companies, [4] cargo terminal operators, aircraft manufacturers and financial institutions. [5] [6] [7]

History

Foundation

Lufthansa Consulting GmbH was founded in 1998 as a subsidiary of Lufthansa to offer services to the transportation industry in general. Based on this decision a cooperation with a railway company and other transportation and aviation companies were planned.[ citation needed ]

In the 1990s with an increased market orientation the consulting portfolio was extended to include Air Traffic Control and infrastructure development services. Lufthansa Consulting established aviation restructuring and privatization services. During this period international projects included the privatization of Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay and the turnaround of Mexicana de Aviación in Mexico and the restructuring of Philippine Airlines.[ citation needed ]

Development since 2000

From 2000 Lufthansa Consulting focused on management consultancy services for the aviation industry. Notable projects have included the restructuring of Air Madagascar, the development of Ouagadougou International Airport, flight operations and safety improvements at Petrobras and upgrading operational processes for Kenya Airways. In 2012, Andreas Jahnke took over the position as Managing Director of Lufthansa Consulting. New management structures and reorganized responsibilities were established. The company focuses primarily on regional markets in Europe, Russia, CIS, Middle East, Asia, Africa and South America. The new Inter-Branch services is active in non-aviation industries like transport and logistics companies, railways and bus line operators. [9]

In August 2014, it moved into its new headquarters at the Frankfurt Airport Center (FAC) at Frankfurt Airport, near Terminal 1. Previously it had offices in Cologne and Frankfurt, [10] with Cologne having the headquarters. [11]

Condor, legally incorporated as Condor Flugdienst GmbH, is a German airline based in Neu Isenburg, Hesse. It was established in 1955 with Frankfurt Airport as its main base. Condor offers scheduled and charter flights and operates, from Germany, medium-haul flights to the Mediterranean Basin and the Canary Islands as well as long-haul flights to destinations in Africa, Asia, North America, South America and the Caribbean. Whereas medium-haul flights are operated from many German airports and Zurich, long-haul flights usually depart from Frankfurt, with a few charter services operated from Düsseldorf and Munich.

OLT Express Germany was an airline based in Bremen in Germany. The company moved to Bremen from Emden in February 2012. It operated regional scheduled and charter flights linking northern Germany to other parts of the country and Bremen to other European destinations. Its main base was Bremen Airport.

Germanwings GmbH was a German low-cost airline wholly owned by Lufthansa which operated under the Eurowings brand. It was based in Cologne with hubs at Cologne Bonn Airport, Stuttgart Airport, Hamburg Airport, Berlin Tegel Airport, Munich Airport and further bases at Hannover Airport and Dortmund Airport.

Cirrus Airlines Luftfahrtgesellschaft mbH was a German regional airline with its head office in Hallbergmoos and its maintenance facilities at Saarbrücken Airport. It operated both charter and scheduled flights, the latter on behalf of Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines and Air Moldova. Its main bases and hubs were Saarbrücken Airport and Mannheim City Airport. The company slogan was connecting business.

Privatair SA was a Swiss airline headquartered in Meyrin, which operated business jets as well as scheduled services on behalf of major airlines. In addition the company operated crew and pilot training facilities. PrivatAir SA was a registered air carrier with two air operator's certificates, in Switzerland and through its subsidiary PrivatAir GmbH in Germany. On 5 December 2018, PrivatAir filed for insolvency and ceased operations.

Lufthansa Cargo AG is a German cargo airline and a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa. It operates worldwide air freight and logistics services and is headquartered at Frankfurt Airport, the main hub of Lufthansa. Besides operating dedicated cargo planes, the company also has access to cargo capacities of 350 passenger aircraft of the Lufthansa Group.

Augsburg Airways was a German regional airline. A member of Team Lufthansa and its successor Lufthansa Regional, it operated feeder services at Munich Airport on behalf of Lufthansa.

Eurowings GmbH is a German low-cost carrier headquartered in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. Founded in 1996, it serves a network of domestic and European destinations and maintains bases at several airports throughout Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. As of 2024, it its the largest low-cost-carrier on the German market.

Lufthansa CityLine GmbH is a German regional airline with its headquarters on the grounds of Munich Airport. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa and maintains hubs at Frankfurt Airport and Munich Airport, from where it operates a dense domestic and European network on behalf of its parent company.

Lufthansa Systems GmbH & Co. KG is an information technology service provider for the aviation industry owned by the Lufthansa Group. It has around 2,800 employees in several locations in Germany and offices in 16 other countries. The company is headquartered in Raunheim near Frankfurt. The company's portfolio includes "consulting, development and implementation of customized industry solutions as well as the operation of applications in the company's own data centers." The Hungarian subsidiary, Lufthansa Systems Hungária Kft., was established in 1995, and employed 200 people as of 2005.

The company benefits from exclusive cooperation agreements, providing access to the Lufthansa Group network, Intercity-Express high-speed railway services of Deutsche Bahn, as well as collaborations with Frankfurt International Airport and Munich Airport. Additionally, time:matters operates its own courier terminals. Its services cater to various industries, including Life and Health, Medical Technology, Aviation and Aerospace, Machinery and Components, Automotive, and High Tech and Semiconductors.

SunExpress Deutschland GmbH was a German leisure airline headquartered in Gateway Gardens, Flughafen, Frankfurt, Hesse. It was a subsidiary of SunExpress, which itself is a joint-venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. Its main base was Frankfurt Airport with smaller bases at several other airports throughout Germany. The company ceased all operations in 2020.
