"What a Wonderful World" is a song written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released in 1967 as a single, which topped the pop charts in the United Kingdom, though it performed poorly in the United States because Larry Newton, the president of ABC Records, had set himself against it.
The UK Singles Chart was first compiled in 1969. However the records and statistics listed here date back to 1952 because the Official Charts Company counts a selected period of the New Musical Express chart and the Record Retailer chart from 1960 to 1969 as predecessors for the period prior to 11 February 1969, where multiples of competing charts coexisted side by side. For example, the BBC compiled its own chart based on an average of the music papers of the time; many songs announced as having reached number one on BBC Radio and Top of the Pops prior to 1969 may not be listed here as chart-toppers since they do not meet the legacy criteria of the Charts Company.
"Wonderful World" is a song by American singer-songwriter Sam Cooke. Music arrangement was by the prolific Belford Hendricks who also wrote the arrangements for the songs "You Send Me", "Cupid", "Chain Gang","(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons", and "A Change Is Gonna Come". Released on April 14, 1960, by Keen Records, it had been recorded during an impromptu session the previous year in March 1959, at Sam Cooke's last recording session at Keen. He signed with RCA Victor in 1960 and "Wonderful World," then unreleased, was issued as a single in competition. The song was mainly composed by songwriting team Lou Adler and Herb Alpert, but Cooke revised the lyrics to mention the subject of education more.
"That's My Goal" is the debut single by British singer Shayne Ward, the winner of the second series of The X Factor. It was released as his winner's single on 21 December 2005. Ward was the first X Factor winner to release an original song as his winner's single; all other winners released a cover version of another song, until Matt Terry's "When Christmas Comes Around" in 2016. "That's My Goal" was later included on Ward's debut studio album, Shayne Ward (2006).
"When" is a song by Canadian singer Shania Twain. It is the second UK release and fifth single overall from her third studio album Come on Over. The song was written by Twain and her then-husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The song was originally released in the summer of 1998. It was the only single from Come on Over to not be released to the US. However, it was released to Canada as a pop single in February 2000. The song was included in the Come on Over Tour and in a medley for the Up! Tour. Despite being excluded from her Greatest Hits album, Twain has stated that "When" is her favorite song from Come On Over. "When" is also the theme song for the Japanese drama Cheap Love.
"Cannonball" is a song written and performed by Irish folk singer Damien Rice. It was released as the second single from his debut album O in 2002, following the release of his debut single "The Blower's Daughter". It was subject to re-releases in 2003, 2004 and 2011.
"Up" is a song by British-Irish recording girl group The Saturdays from their debut studio album, Chasing Lights (2008). It was co-written by the track's producers, Josef Larossi and Andreas Romdhane of Quiz & Larossi, in collaboration with Ina Wroldsen. "Up" was first released by Fascination and Polydor Records on 13 October 2008 as the second single from Chasing Lights. It was accompanied by a B-side entitled "Crashing Down"; originally recorded by the Nolans in 1982, and written by Benjamin Findon, Robert Puzey and Mike Myers, and produced by Jewels & Store. The Saturdays previously collaborated with Ina Wroldsen for their debut single "If This Is Love", as well as on six other tracks chosen for the album. Future singles including Ego, also came from collaboration with Ina Wroldsen and Rhys Barker. The song is upbeat and, has prominent pop and electropop genre characteristics. It contains lyrical influences from feelings of feminism and self-confidence in a personal relationship with your lover.
"Supernova" is a song by British singer Mr Hudson, featuring American rapper Kanye West. "Supernova" was premiered on 13 May 2009, on Zane Lowe BBC Radio Show and then released through Mr Hudson's and Kanye West's blogs. The song was later remixed by Calvin Harris in a more electronic fashion. After being officially released as a single on 19 July 2009, it promptly debuted high on European charts.
"More" is a song by American singer Usher, taken from the deluxe edition of his sixth studio album Raymond v. Raymond (2010). It was written by Charles Hinshaw, Usher, and RedOne, with the latter also producing the song.
"Gave It All Away" is a song performed by Irish boyband Boyzone, released as the lead single from their fourth studio album, Brother, on 1 March 2010. It has sold 150,000 copies worldwide.
"The Club Is Alive" is a song by British boyband JLS. It was released in the United Kingdom on 2 July 2010 as the lead single from their second studio album, Outta This World. It was also included in the American EP version of their debut album.
"Invincible" is a song by English rapper Tinie Tempah. Written by Tempah, co-written and produced by iSHi, the song features guest vocals from American recording artist, Kelly Rowland. It was released on 26 December 2010, serving as the fourth official single from Tempah's debut album, Disc-Overy. The song was conceived by Tempah as a tribute to the music which Rowland used to release when she was part of Destiny's Child. Critics noted the song's production, which consists of brassy horns and a piano riff similar to David Guetta and Rowland's hit single "When Love Takes Over" (2009). An accompanying music video sees Tempah travelling through London reminiscing about his humble beginnings. Rowland appears as a projected image on the buildings.
"Let Me Go" is a song by English-Irish singer Maverick Sabre. It was released on 22 July 2011 as a digital download in the United Kingdom. It was released from his debut studio album Lonely Are the Brave. "Let Me Go" was shortlisted for Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2011.
"Twilight" is the second single recorded by Barbados-based pop group Cover Drive. The song was written by the band with Swedish production team Quiz & Larossi and Ina Wroldsen. The song was released on 22 January 2012 as a digital download and CD single in the United Kingdom, taken from their debut album, Bajan Style. The song topped the UK Singles Chart and received a Gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry in October 2020.
"Rockstar" is the second single from former N-Dubz lead rapper Dappy's debut studio album, Bad Intentions staying with the commercial pop template of his previous single, "No Regrets". It was released on 23 February 2012. The song also features Queen guitarist Brian May.
Sirach Charles, better known by his stage name Angel, is a British singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer from West London, England. His single "Go In, Go Hard", featuring vocals from English rapper Wretch 32, was released on 18 March 2012. The song reached number 41 on the UK Singles Chart. The following single, "Wonderful", performed better commercially, peaking at number nine on the UK Singles Cchart and topping the UK R&B Chart.
"Feel the Love" is a song by British drum and bass band Rudimental. It features the vocals from John Newman. It is the second single from their debut studio album, Home. The song was released in the United Kingdom on 14 May 2012 and went on to debut at the summit on the UK Singles and Dance Charts. The track was selected as BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe's Hottest Record in the World on 29 March 2012.
"Heatwave" is a single from British grime artist Wiley, featuring vocals from Ms D – known for singing on the Chipmunk song "Oopsy Daisy". It was released as the lead single from his ninth studio album The Ascent on 27 July 2012 for digital download in the United Kingdom. It was written by Wiley, Dayo Olatunji and produced by Rymez, who is unofficially credited as a featured artist. "Heatwave" received major radio airplay, while managing to enter on BBC Radio 1's A-list. The song debuted at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart on 5 August 2012, selling over 114,000 copies, while becoming Wiley's first ever solo number 1.
"I Hope You Find It" is a country pop and adult contemporary ballad by American entertainer Miley Cyrus and made famous by Cher. It was written by Steven Robson and Jeffrey Steele for inclusion on the soundtrack of Cyrus' 2010 film The Last Song. Although "I Hope You Find It" was not released as a single from the album, it debuted at #8 on Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart in the week ending April 10, 2010 and peaked at #5 a week later, on the basis of a large amount of digital downloads alone. It dropped out in the week ending April 24, 2010.
"Wouldn't Change a Thing" is a song performed by Australian singer and songwriter Kylie Minogue, recorded for her second studio album Enjoy Yourself (1989). The song was written by Stock Aitken Waterman, and was released on 24 July 1989 by PWL Records. The song was released as the second single off the album.
