World Riichi Championship

The World Riichi Championship (WRC) is a worldwide competition of Japanese Mahjong (also known as riichi) held every 3 years since 2014. The competition is nominally open to people of all ages, men and women alike. Participants generally consist of Japanese professional Mahjong players and foreign amateur players selected by national organizations from Europe, North America, and elsewhere around the world.

History

The first edition of WRC was organized two brothers, Quentin and Valérian THOMAS, founders of Tri Nitro Tiles (TNT), a French Riichi Mahjong Club in 2014.

On July 16–20, 2014, the 1st Championship was held in the Mairie de Puteaux (city hall), in the Paris, France region.

The second edition was organized by the United States Professional Mahjong League (USPML) in 2017. On October 4–8, 2017, the WRC was held at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The third edition will be hosted in Vienna, Austria. The original date was in August, but concerns over the coronavirus pandemic prompted planners with postponement. The third edition was finally held at the Intercontinental Hotel Vienna in Vienna, Austria on August 25-28, 2022.

The fourth edition will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan in 2025 to be organized by the Japan Mahjong Professional League.

Qualification

General qualification varies by country and association. Players from various nations refer to their national organization for qualification.

Federation of International Sports Table Football

Powerchair Football

Powerchair Football, also known as Power Soccer, is a variant of association football for people with physical disabilities. Players use specially designed powered wheelchairs in order to maneuver and kick/hit an oversized football. The game is played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court. Two teams of four players use powerchairs equipped with footguards to attack, defend, and spin-kick a 13-inch (330 mm) football in an attempt to score goals.

Japanese mahjong, also known as riichi mahjong, is a variation of mahjong. While the basic rules to the game are retained, the variation features a unique set of rules such as riichi and the use of dora. The variant is one of a few styles, where discarded tiles are ordered rather than placed in a disorganized pile. This is primarily due to the furiten rule, which takes player discards into account. The World Ringette Championships (WRC) is the premier international competition in ringette and is governed by the International Ringette Federation (IRF). Unlike most international competitions, all of the WRC's elite athletes are female rather than male, one of the sport's distinctive features. Competing nations include: Canada, Finland, United States, Sweden, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, with Team Canada and Team Finland having emerged as the sport's top two competing nations. The inaugural year for the WRC was in 1990 and the World Ringette Summit Series took place in Europe in 1998. The 2021 WRC was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The initial gap between championships was variable, but since 1962 they have been awarded every four years. The current champion is Poland, which won its third title at the 2018 tournament defending the championship title. The 2022 World Championship will be held in Poland and Slovenia. It was originally planned to be held in Russia, but due to Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Russia was stripped of organization rights. Russia was also banned from the competition, and Ukraine was invited in its stead as the next-highest-ranked team in the World Ranking.

Germany national cerebral palsy football team is the national cerebral football team for Germany that represents the team in international competitions. The team has never participated at the Paralympic Games but has participated at several international tournaments.

International Online Riichi Mahjong Competition (IORMC/ko:국제온라인마작대회) is the international competition of Mahjong under Japanese rule in Tenhou.net the online mahjong service since 2012. The competition is organized by the Korean Mahjong League (KML).
