The men's freestyle light heavyweight was a freestyle wrestling event held as part of the Wrestling at the 1924 Summer Olympics programme. [1] It was the second appearance of the event. Light heavyweight was the second-heaviest category, including wrestlers weighing from 79 to 87 kilograms.

Freestyle wrestling style of amateur wrestling

Freestyle wrestling is a style of amateur wrestling that is practiced throughout the world. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic games. American high school and college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling.

At the 1924 Summer Olympics thirteen wrestling events were contested, all for men. There were six weight classes in Greco-Roman wrestling and seven classes in freestyle wrestling. The Greco-Roman events were held from July 6 to July 10, 1924 and the freestyle competitions were held from July 11 to July 14, 1924.

Light heavyweight, or junior cruiserweight, is a weight class in combat sports.

As Wilson, Westergren, Hutmacker, and Mylläri declined to compete, Charles Courant was awarded the bronze medal.

Charles Courant was a Swiss freestyle wrestler and Olympic medalist. He competed at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp where he won a silver medal. He won a bronze medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.
