Wyndham Truran Cook (born 20 March 1943) is a former Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1970 to 1974,representing the seat of Albany.
Cook was born in Yarloop,a small town in Western Australia's South West region. After leaving school,he worked variously as an engineman (with Western Australian Government Railways),a shop assistant,and a butcher. [1] A trade union official and a member of the Labor Party since 1962,Cook was elected to parliament at the 1970 Albany by-election,which had been caused by the resignation of Jack Hall,the sitting Labor member. Hall had been suffering from ill health and died before the by-election was held. Aged only 27 when elected,Cook retained Albany at the 1971 state election,but was defeated by the Liberal Party's Leon Watt at the 1974 election. [2] After leaving parliament,he operated a tour company in the Mid West. He later lived in Queensland,eventually retiring to Renmark,South Australia. [1]
Henry Daglish was an Australian politician who was the sixth premier of Western Australia and the first from the Labor Party,serving from 10 August 1904 to 25 August 1905. Daglish was born in Ballarat,Victoria,and studied at the University of Melbourne. In 1882,he worked as a mechanical engineer but soon switched to working in the Victorian public service. He first stood for election in 1896 but failed to win the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Melbourne South. He then moved to Subiaco,Western Australia,where he found work as a chief clerk in the Western Australian Police Department. In 1900,Daglish was elected to the Subiaco Municipal Council and in April the following year,he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly as the member for the newly created seat of Subiaco,becoming one of six Labor members in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The party elected him as its whip,and he resigned from the Subiaco council on 1 May 1901. On 1 December 1902,Daglish was sworn in as mayor of Subiaco,having been elected the previous month.
Raymond Steele Hall is a former Australian politician who served as the 36th Premier of South Australia from 1968 to 1970. He also served in the federal Parliament as a senator for South Australia from 1974 to 1977 and federal member for the Division of Boothby from 1981 to 1996.
Albany is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Albany is named for the port and regional city of Western Australia which falls within its borders. It is one of the oldest electorates in Western Australia,with its first member having been elected in the inaugural 1890 elections of the Legislative Assembly. It is regarded as a swinging seat,and has been held by the Labor Party since the 2001 election,at which Peter Watson was first elected. Watson announced his retirement prior to the 2021 election and was succeeded in the seat by Labor Party colleague,Rebecca Stephens.

Elections were held in the state of Western Australia between 27 April and 26 May 1897 to elect 44 members to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The Ministerialist group led by John Forrest won a third term in office as a result of the elections. The poll took place based on boundaries established in the Constitution Act Amendment Act 1896,which increased the number of members from 33 mainly by adding new seats in the Goldfields region,and had been called a year earlier than was necessary. In 18 of the 44 seats,only one candidate nominated and polls were not held.
