Xinghua Bay is an inlet of the Taiwan Strait beside Putian in Fujian on the Chinese mainland. It is fed by the Mulan River and Qiulu Creek ( 萩芦 溪 , Qiūlú Xī). Administratively, it is surrounded by Putian's Xiuyu, Licheng, and Hanjiang Districts to the south and west and by Fuzhou's city of Fuqing and the islands of its Pingtan County to the north and northeast.
The Taiwan Strait, or Formosa Strait, is a 180-kilometre (110 mi)-wide strait separating the island of Taiwan from mainland China. The strait is part of the South China Sea and connects to the East China Sea to the north. The narrowest part is 130 km (81 mi) wide.
