Yacine Elghorri, also referred to as Elgo, is a French illustrator, storyboard artist, conceptual designer and comic book artist. He worked in the United States on films and cartoons such as Matt Groening's Futurama, Titan AE, Evolution directed by Ivan Reitman, Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes , Time Jam: Valerian & Laureline and Thru the Moebius Strip. [1] He has also contributed to the science fiction comics magazine Heavy Metal .
Elgo was born in Paris, France. After graduating from college, he went to film school Gobelins to study animation. [2] The school has an international reputation, producing numerous talented individuals and teams hired by the world's leading animation studios. Focusing on conceptual art and design, Elgo worked on a few television series ( Flash Gordon , The New Adventures of Lucky Luke , W.I.T.C.H. , Xyber 9: New Dawn ), and drew comics for various French magazines.
In 1996 he moved to the United States to work in the film industry. He settled in Los Angeles where he worked for Rich Animation Studios, Saban Entertainment, Mainframe Studios, Sony Pictures Television, Tippett Studio and 20th Century Fox. [2] Elgo pursued his career as a comic book artist drawing short stories for Heavy Metal, IDW Publishing and Marvel Comics. He has also worked as a concept designer and storyboard artist on several films, television series and commercials such as: Spiders II: Breeding Ground, Replicant , The Order , The Monk, a canceled project directed by Ringo Lam ( starring Jean-Claude Van Damme), The Swan Princess III: The Mystery of the Enchanted Treasure , Titan A.E , Evolution (with Oscar and Emmy Award-winning visual effects creator Phil Tippett), Jackie Chan Adventures ( Early concept design, uncredited ), Time Jam: Valerian & Laureline , Futurama ( season 1) and 7 Up. He has also worked with writer Jean Dufaux on a series of three graphic novels called Medina published in France, Belgium and Spain by Le Lombard publishing. [3] [2] The artist and co-creator of the magazine Métal hurlant , Philippe Druillet, wrote a preface for Elgo. His mini series Factory has been translated in English and published by Titan Comics. Elgo has specifically asked for a cover by Simon Bisley.
Elgo also collaborated with comic book writer and director Alejandro Jodorowsky on an aborted project based on the character Gorgo-the-dirty from the series The Incal originally illustrated by Jean Giraud. The project was picked up again in 2014 in the third volume of the series After the Incal , illustrated by José Ladrönn and published by Les Humanoïdes Associés.
In 2017, Elgo was one of the 80 artists [4] exhibited in Los Angeles by the Copro gallery and Heavy Metal Magazine to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the cult science-fiction magazine with the Heavy Metal 40th Anniversary Art Show. [5]
His works are influenced by revered artists such as Enki Bilal and Katsuhiro Otomo 大友 克洋 ( whom he met during the production of Steamboy ). Additionally, he has collaborated with legendary artist Mœbius on the computer-animated science fiction film Thru the Moebius Strip .
In 2022, journalist-writer Jean-Pierre Dionnet suggests to Elgo to create a short story for the reboot of the magazine Métal Hurlant .
Elgo currently lives in Paris, France, where he gives lectures at art schools and works on his paintings.
Heavy Metal was an American science fiction and fantasy comics magazine, published between 1977 and 2023. The magazine was known primarily for its blend of dark fantasy/science fiction, erotica and steampunk comics.
Bandes dessinées, abbreviated BDs and also referred to as Franco-Belgian comics, are comics that are usually originally in French and created for readership in France and Belgium. These countries have a long tradition in comics, separate from that of English-language comics. Belgium is a mostly bilingual country, and comics originally in Dutch are culturally a part of the world of bandes dessinées, even if the translation from French to Dutch far outweighs the other direction.

Jean Henri Gaston Giraud was a French artist, cartoonist and writer who worked in the Franco-Belgian bandes dessinées (BD) tradition. Giraud garnered worldwide acclaim predominantly under the pseudonym Mœbius for his fantasy/science-fiction work, and to a slightly lesser extent as Gir, which he used for the Blueberry series and his other Western themed work. Esteemed by Federico Fellini, Stan Lee, and Hayao Miyazaki, among others, he has been described as the most influential bande dessinée artist after Hergé.
Valérian and Laureline, originally titled Valérian: Spatio-Temporal Agent and also commonly known as Valérian, is a French science fiction comics series, created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. It was first published in Pilote magazine in 1967; the final installment was published in 2010. All of the Valérian stories have been collected in comic album format, comprising some twenty-one volumes plus a short story collection and an encyclopædia.
Métal hurlant is a French comics anthology of science fiction and horror comics stories. Originally created in 1974, the anthologies ceased publication in 1987, but revived between 2002 and 2004 in multilingual editions, and then again in 2020.

The Incal is a French graphic novel series written by Alejandro Jodorowsky and originally illustrated by Jean Giraud. The Incal, with first pages originally released as Une aventure de John Difool in Métal hurlant and published by Les Humanoïdes Associés, introduced Jodorowsky's "Jodoverse", a fictional universe in which his science fiction comics take place. It is an epic space opera blending fantastical intergalactic voyage, science, technology, political intrigues, conspiracies, messianism, mysticism, poetry, debauchery, love stories, and satire. The Incal includes and expands the concepts and artwork from the abandoned film project Dune directed by Jodorowsky and designed by Giraud from the early 1970s.
The Airtight Garage is a lengthy comic strip work by the artist and writer Moebius. It first appeared in discrete two-to-four-page episodes, in issues 6 through 41 of the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Métal Hurlant from 1976 to 1979, and later in the American version of the same magazine, Heavy Metal, starting in 1977. Pilote was a French comic magazine published from 1959 to 1989. Showcasing most of the major French or Belgian comics talents of its day the magazine introduced major series such as Astérix, Barbe-Rouge, Blueberry, Achille Talon, and Valérian et Laureline. Major comics writers like René Goscinny, Jean-Michel Charlier, Greg, Pierre Christin and Jacques Lob were featured in the magazine, as were artists such as Jijé, Morris, Albert Uderzo, Jean (Mœbius) Giraud, Enki Bilal, Jean-Claude Mézières, Jacques Tardi, Philippe Druillet, Marcel Gotlib, Alexis, and Annie Goetzinger.
Jean-Claude Mézières was a French bandes dessinées artist and illustrator. Born in Paris and raised in nearby Saint-Mandé, he was introduced to drawing by his elder brother and influenced by comics artists such as Hergé, Andre Franquin and Morris and later by Jijé and Jack Davis. Educated at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art, he worked upon graduation as an illustrator for books and magazines as well as in advertising. A lifelong interest in the Wild West led him to travel to the United States in 1965 in search of adventure as a cowboy, an experience that would prove influential on his later work.

Arzach is a comic book collection of four wordless short stories by artist/author Jean 'Moebius' Giraud, which were originally published in the French sci-fi/fantasy comics magazine Métal Hurlant. The stories follow Arzach, a silent warrior who rides a pterodactyl-like creature through a strange, desolate landscape. The imagery and situations in Arzach are often compared to dreams or the subconscious. These stories had an enormous impact on the French comics industry, and the Arzach character is still among Moebius' most famous creations. It can be defined as a pantomime comic, fantasy comics or an experimental comic.
"The Long Tomorrow" is the title of a science fiction comics short story serialized in two segments in the French magazine Metal Hurlant in 1976. It was written by Dan O'Bannon, and illustrated by Moebius. It is noted for its influential visual design, which inspired the designs of feature films including Blade Runner, Tron, Alien, and The Abyss. The story was reprinted in Moebius Book Four.
