In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. On November 2, 2015, twenty years after its release, the album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for shipments of 500,000 units in the United States. The master tapes for the album, including some unreleased tracks, were destroyed in the 2008 Universal Studios fire.

A Word of Science is the debut studio album by British electronic producers Nightmares on Wax. Released by Warp Records in September 1991, it is the act's only album as a group before it became a solo vehicle for George Evelyn. Evelyn nonetheless recorded and produced the album alone, incorporating samples and elements from demo tapes he made in the late 1980s. Although Nightmares on Wax debuted with two well-received techno singles in 1989-1990, A Word of Science is eclectic and largely moves the act towards a more mellow style influenced by funk, soul and hip hop, while still incorporating techno and house styles.

The Ghetto Mafia is an American hip hop group from Decatur, Georgia, United States, composed of Nino and Wicked. Formed in 1993, the Ghetto Mafia signed to local hip hop label, Ichiban Records, who then released their debut album, Draw the Line on April 26, 1994. The group then released 1995's Full Blooded Niggaz through Triad Records before joining Fully Loaded Records in 1996. With Fully Loaded, Ghetto Mafia released 1997's Straight from the Dec and their most successful album to date, 1998's On da Grind, which peaked at 169 on the Billboard 200. After a seven-year hiatus, they released Da Return... of Ghetto Mafia in 2005. In 2016, Ghetto Mafia returned with a new single, "Elephant in the Room".
Action Packed Adventure! also known as Action Packed Adventure! is the debut concept album by the rap group Yaggfu Front. This album has been compared to the Pharcyde & Das EFX for its quirky and somewhat playful lyrics. It was critically acclaimed in the underground hip hop scene and sold over 200,000 copies.
