The Yamhill HighFlyers were an International Basketball League team based in McMinnville, Oregon. [1] It was the first professional sports franchise of Yamhill County, Oregon. [2] The team was founded by owner/general manager Eric Bailey in 2009 and was operated by YHF Entertainment, LLC. The High Flyers worked to gain the support of local business and offer opportunities for local athletes. [3] The team did not field a team in 2013. [4] The voice of the HighFlyers was the local radio personality Brian Eriksen, games were carried on local radio station KLYC 1260AM.

2009 Season

The HighFlyers played an abbreviated four game schedule in 2009 for their branding year. Home games were played on Thursday May 28 against Japan's Nippon Tornadoes and on Friday June 26 against the Vancouver BC Titans. Both games were played at Patton Middle School in McMinnville, Oregon. [5] [6]

2010 Season

Following the abbreviated 2009 branding season, the HighFlyers played a full 20 game schedule in 2010. These games were split between being played at McMinnville High School and Linfield College's Ted Wilson Gym. The team made it to the IBL semi-finals, losing to the Bellingham Slam, and falling just short of playing in the IBL Championship. [7] Four HighFlyers were named IBL All-Stars: Jason Hartford, Curtis Nash, Durrell Nevels, and Nate Bowie. [8] Roughly half of the Yamhill team went on to sign professional basketball contracts in Europe. [9] [10]

2012 Season

The HighFlyers returned to play another abbreviated season in 2012. [11] The 2012 Schedule:

The International Basketball League (IBL) was a semi-professional men's basketball league featuring teams from the West Coast of the United States. In 2010 the Albany Legends became the first team in the Northeastern United States to join. The IBL also sometimes featured teams from China and Japan which temporarily relocated to the United States for the IBL season. The IBL season typically ran from the end of March through July.

The Portland Chinooks was a professional men's basketball team based out of Portland, Oregon. They were charter members of the International Basketball League and began play in the league in 2004. The team was owned by local businessman Terry Emmert. They played their home games at various locations since their inception, including the Peter Stott Center, the Rose Garden, and at Eastmoreland Courts in southeast Portland. The team colors of red and black were shared with their predecessors from the NBA, the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Salem Soldiers were a basketball team from Salem, Oregon that played in the International Basketball League from 2005–07 and in 2012. Originally the Salem Stampede, they played home games in the Salem Armory, which seats 3,000 for basketball. In 2007 the team played home games in Salem's Douglas McKay High School. The team became the Soldiers in 2012 when they returned to the IBL, their final season, as the Salem Sabres entered the league the next year.

The team was owned by C. Neiman Sports, Inc. and the team's general manager was Joe Becerra. They played their home games at Chemeketa Community College. They joined the league after playing one season in the American Basketball Association. After the 2014 season they folded along with the league.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Yamhill River lock and dam</span> Dam in Lafayette, Oregon

The Yamhill River lock and dam was completed in 1900. It was built near Lafayette, Oregon, to allow better river transport on the Yamhill River from Dayton, to McMinnville, Oregon. While the Corps of Engineers had recommended against construction of the lock, it was built anyway, largely as a result of political effort by the backers of the project. For almost forty years prior to the lock construction there had been efforts made to construct a lock and dam on the Yamhill River.
