Yang Shangkun was a Chinese Communist military and political leader,President of the People's Republic of China from 1988 to 1993,and one of the Eight Elders that dominated the Party after the death of Mao Zedong.
Tian Han,formerly romanized as T'ien Han,was a Chinese drama activist,playwright,a leader of revolutionary music and films,as well as a translator and poet. He emerged at the time of the New Culture Movement of the early 20th century and continued to be active until the Cultural Revolution,when he was denounced and jailed for two years until his death,before being "posthumously rehabilitated" by the Chinese authorities in 1979. He is considered by drama historians as one of the three founders of Chinese spoken drama,together with Ouyang Yuqian and Hong Shen. His most famous legacy may be the lyrics he wrote for "March of the Volunteers" in 1934,which were later adopted as the national anthem of the People's Republic of China.
Peng Zhen was a leading member of the Chinese Communist Party. He led the party organization in Beijing following the victory of the Communists in the Chinese Civil War in 1949,but was purged during the Cultural Revolution for opposing Mao's views on the role of literature in relation to the state. He was rehabilitated under Deng Xiaoping in 1982 along with other 'wrongly accused' officials,and became the inaugural head of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission.
Ouyang Xiu,courtesy name Yongshu,also known by his art names Zuiweng (醉翁) and Liu Yi Jushi (六一居士),was a Chinese historian,calligrapher,epigrapher,essayist,poet,and politician of the Song dynasty. He was a renowned writer among his contemporaries and is considered the central figure of the Eight Masters of the Tang and Song. He revived the Classical Prose Movement and promoted it in imperial examinations,paving the way for future masters like Su Shi and Su Zhe.
Wan Li was a Chinese Communist revolutionary and politician. During a long administrative career in the People's Republic of China,he served successively as Vice Premier,Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC),and a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Secretariat and its Politburo.Wan joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1936 and led revolutionary and wartime resistance activities in his native Shandong province. After the founding of the communist state in 1949,Wan served in a series of government ministries,then worked as a member of the municipal leadership in Beijing. He was purged during the Cultural Revolution,but was eventually rehabilitated and returned to work as party chief of Anhui province,where he led the implementation of successful agrarian reforms centered on the household-responsibility system.In the 1980s,Wan became one of the leading moderate reformers in China's top leadership,advocating for constitutional reforms,the strengthening of legislative institutions,and the abolition of 'lifelong-terms' of top political leaders. He was named head of the national legislature in 1988. He retired in 1993.

Hu Feng was a Chinese Marxist writer,poet and literary theorist. He was a prominent member of the League of Left-Wing Writers. After the founding of the People's Republic of China,Hu Feng became a member of the First National People's Congress of China,but was then heavily persecuted as the chief of the Hu Feng Counter-revolutionary Clique. The persecution became a massive political purge. He was first rehabilitated in 1980 and fully rehabilitated,posthumously,in 1988.

He was investigated by the Communist Party of China's anti-graft agency in March 2016. At the time of his downfall,he was serving as vice-chairman of the Liaoning People's Congress.

The eldest son of the powerful Inner Mongolia leader Ulanhu,Buhe served as Chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region between 1982 and 1993.
