Yang Siow Ming (born 1 July 1946) is a Malaysian field hockey player. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics and the 1972 Summer Olympics. [2]

Yang was born in Kuala Kangsar to schoolteacher parents. The family later moved to Malacca, where Yang attended Malacca High School. [3] He began his hockey career there, representing the school even as a first-former. [4] He played other sports while in high school, and was named the school's Sportsman of the Year for five years running, but eventually dropped his other sports to focus on field hockey. He did not try out for the Malaysian team for the 1964 Olympics as he was sitting for his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations that year, but two years later he represented his country at the 1966 Asian Games. There, he met his wife-to-be Thong Nyok Seen, a daughter of then-Olympic Council of Malaysia general secretary Thong Poh Nyen. Yang went on to represent Malaysia again at the 1968 Summer Olympics and the 1971 Southeast Asian Peninsular Games. After the 1972 Summer Olympics, he retired from sport and married Thong, with whom he had one son, Eugene. He took up teaching positions at Kajang High School in Selangor and then at Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur, and in 1996 became director of coaching at the Malaysian Hockey Federation, a position which he held until 1999. [3] He was inducted into the Olympic Council of Malaysia's Hall of Fame in 2015. [4] As of 2020, he lived with his son and daughter-in-law, and had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. [3]

Ajit Pal Singh Kular was an Indian professional field hockey player from Sansarpur, Punjab. He was the captain of the Indian hockey team. He was conferred the Arjuna Award in 1970, and awarded it in 1972. He played at centre half position. He was captain of the Indian team at the Hockey World Cup 1975 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Michael Kindo was an Indian field hockey player from the tribal belt of Jharkhand. He played at full back defender position and represented India and competed in the 1971 Men's Hockey World Cup, 1972 Summer Olympics, 1973 Men's Hockey World Cup, 1974 Asian Games, 1975 Men's Hockey World Cup. Prior to this he had competed in several local, national and regional competitions. In 1972, he became the first Adivasi sportsperson to be awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award.

Tun Datuk Seri Utama Syed Ahmad bin Syed Mahmud Shahabuddin was a Malaysian politician. He was the Menteri Besar of Kedah from 1967 to 1978 and the fifth Yang di-Pertua Negeri (Governor) of Melaka state from 1984 until 2004, the longest-serving governor of Malacca.

Dato Ho Koh Chye was a Malaysian Olympic field hockey goalie. Once ranked the finest goalie in the world. His name is etched in the Malaysian Hall Of Fame for posterity.
