Dattajirao Krishnarao Gaekwad, known as Datta Gaekwad, was an Indian cricketer. He appeared in 11 Test matches, toured England in 1952 and 1959 and West Indies in 1952–53. He captained the Indian team on the 1959 tour. As a batsman Gaekwad "possessed a sure defence and delightfully crisp shots especially through the covers". He was also an occasional leg spin bowler. Until his death, he was India's oldest living Test cricketer.

The Irani Cup, also known as the IDFC First Bank Irani Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual one-off First-Class cricket match organised by the BCCI and contested each season by the reigning Ranji Trophy champions and a multi-state RoI team composed of players from the other state teams. The inaugural edition was played in March 1960 as a special event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Ranji Trophy. It was intended to be a one-off match but, in 1962, BCCI decided to institute it as annual fixture and it has been played in most seasons since 1962–63. BCCI named the Irani Trophy after Zal R. Irani, their long-serving president and treasurer, who was a significant figure in the organisation from its inception in 1928, till his death in 1970.

The Bengal cricket team is an Indian domestic team representing the state of West Bengal. It is administered by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and participate in tournaments organized by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1934–35 Ranji Trophy</span> Indian cricket tournament (inaugural edition)

The 1934–35 Ranji Trophy was the inaugural edition of India's first-class cricket championship. The tournament was originally titled The Cricket Championship of India, but was renamed as the Ranji Trophy ahead of the 1935–36 edition. The first tournament ran from 4 November 1934 to 12 March 1935 and was contested in a knockout format by 15 teams divided into four zones. In the opening match, Madras defeated Mysore by an innings and 23 runs at the Chepauk Stadium and the match ended five minutes before close of play on the first day. It remains the only Ranji Trophy match to be completed in a single day's play. In the final, Bombay defeated Northern India by 208 runs at the Bombay Gymkhana Ground.

The 1937–38 Ranji Trophy was the fourth edition of the Ranji Trophy, an annual first-class cricket tournament in India. Matches were played from 17 October 1937 to 24 February 1938 with a total of 18 teams participating. The sides were divided into four zonal groups, but the tournament utilised a knockout format. Hyderabad defeated the defending champions Nawanagar in the final.

Malhotra Chamanlal, also known as Chaman Lal Malhotra or just Chamanlal was an Indian cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1952 to 1970. In a minor match in Patiala in 1956-57 he made 502 not out.

The Travancore-Cochin cricket team represented the Indian state of Travancore-Cochin in the Ranji Trophy from 1951–52 to 1956–57. After the state was reorganised and expanded to form the new state of Kerala in 1956, the Travancore-Cochin team was superseded by the Kerala cricket team, beginning with the 1957–58 Ranji Trophy.
