Premise
(2019-2022)(A passionate love story between a famous rockstar, Rudraksh Khurana and a gynaecologist, Dr Preesha Srinivasan who fall in love after raising their respective siblings' son together.) Preesha agrees to marry Yuvraj Pillai for Saaransh but he was marrying her to become judge with the help of her father Gopal “GPS” Srinivasan. Then, Rudraksh and Preesha meet several times and develop a hatred for each other. Rudraksh believs Preesha to be Rajeev's girlfriend and a gold digger. Yuvraj finds out that Preesha’s dead sister, Mahima and Rajeev were a couple, and Saaransh is their 6 year old child. He blackmails into revealing this to Balraj, and demands money. Rajeev betrays him and does the right thing by calling the police, but ends up getting ran over and dies. Preesha takes the blame to save Yuvraj. Rudraksh has a breakdown and ends up jailing Preesha, venting out all his rage. Rudraksh forces Preesha to marry him for Saransh but slowly they come close and clears all the misunderstandings. Niketan, Ahana and Mishka’s father pays a surprise visit to the Khurana Mansion. Saaransh and Sharna make a plan of hiding Saaransh from Rudraksh and Preesha. In order for him to come out, Rudraksh and Preesha need to come close. They do, and when Sharda leads them to Saaransh, they can’t find him and report him as missing. Days pass as Rudraksh and Preesha try to find Saaransh. Preesha sees Saaransh’s napkin in Niketan’s pockets. She runs to his room and manages to find Saaransh, inside the bed in a closet under the bedsheets. Niketan reaches the spot and sees them and Saaransh reveals how Niketan likes dressing up as a girl and Saaransh’s caught him. He then kidnapped Saaransh and kept him in the storage room and then later shifted him in the drawers for him to just die there. Rudraksh reaches the spot and just when Niketan is about to escape, he accidentally shoots Preesha and Saaransh falls and hits his head. Rudraksh fights Niketan. Niketan gets arrested and Saaransh and Preesha heal slowly. Rahul, Rudraksh’s business rival and Yuvraj chase problems between them but they reconcile eventually after more tragic stuff. Mahima returns, as she is evil and she wasn’t dead and pretended to be. She now wants money since she is Saaransh’s mother. She also ends up killing Balraj, kidnaps Rudraksh and gets a look alike Rudraksh from plastic surgery and uses him as a pawn so everyone thinks Rudraksh is evil and killed Balraj. Rudraksh and Preesha try to expose Mahima for months and finally succeed. Ahana, Mishka and Yuvraj tries to separate them but fails. A lot more happens and more stuff, like Rudraksh’s thought to-be-dead-mother and step-brother Sulochna and Kabir come back. Eventually,they get exposed and kidnap Saaransh with Mishka, and demand ransom. Preesha gets the police involved, leading to Mishka revealing a bomb and killing herself and Saaransh. Sulochna becomes good and turns on Kabir and Mishka, leading to Kabir getting arrested. Rudraksh and Preesha blame each other for Saaransh’s death and divorce each other.
6 Months Later
Preesha now lives with Armaan and she raises his daughter, Anvi in Goa whereas, Rudraksh is now turned into an hotel receptionist and meets Devika, who is Armaan's sister. Devika had a crush on Rudraksh and she wants to marry him. Preesha and Rudraksh meets each other as Rudraksh misunderstands she is married to Armaan due to this he decided to marry Devika which makes Preesha jealous. Rudraksh saves Preesha from goons where Armaan catches them in red handed. Devika and Armaan finds out Preesha and Rudraksh's marriage which leads Devika to commit suicide and Preesha gets arrested but Rudraksh bails her by making her mother, Sulochana arrested as she kills Devika. But he finds out Mishka is still alive with Ahana but she made them to believe that she only raises Krishna, who is itself is Saransh whom had lost her memory due to the incident as Ahana and Mishka pretends him as a girl. Armaan creates many problems in between them where Rudraksh meets Armaan's wife, Sania to gain information about Saraansh but she makes Preesha to misunderstands this so she decided to marry Armaan but Rudraksh stops her by revealing Saraansh's truth by making both Ahana and Mishka to get arrested.
Preesha and Rudraksh consummate their marriage. Preesha's long lost brother Venkatesh arrives and creates misunderstandings between her and Rudraksh. Mishka got Venkatesh suspended and blamed him for doing wrong stuff. Rudraksh mistakenly kills Venkatesh when he is about to kill Mishka and Saaransh. Preesha took the blame and is arrested. Rudraksh felt guilty. Yuvraj burns the prison and saves Preesha. Rudraksh presumes her dead but unknown to him Preesha was pregnant with Rudraksh's child and leaves the city.
5 years later
Preesha now has a daughter named Ruhi Khurana, Preesha and Rudraksh's daughter who loves singing just like her father. Then, Ruhi's destiny bought Rudraksh and Preesha together again. Yuvraj causes problems between them again, and then they reconcile. Yuvraj also spies on Preesha. Saaransh also finds out that Preesha is alive, and gets mad at Rudraksh for not telling him. Ruhi in school gets bullied by three boys. Ruhi told the principal that there is boys who are teasing her. So The principal punishes Dev Choudhary, Rakesh Choudhary and Revati Choudhary, a cop’s son. Meanwhile, Dev’s little sister and Rudraksh annd Preesha befriend Revati, unaware of the fact that Dev is her son. Again, Yuvraj reveals the fact in the rain outside that Preesha knew about Yuvraj killing Rajeev in front of Rudraksh. Rudraksh and Yuvraj both fight, and Rudraksh and Preesha get into a fight again. Dev makes bad posters about Preesha, and gets beaten up by Saaransh ending up in the hospital. Dev takes revenge on Ruhi. Then some days later, Saaransh pushes Dev mistakenly off at the top of the terrace for saving Ruhi. Preesha finds out that Saaransh pushed Revati's son off the terrace. Soon, Revati takes revenge on the Khurana family. Soon, Preesha gives birth to a baby boy. Revati was telling someone whose name is Malati to take Preesha's son and use him as Revati's adopted son because she lost her previous son. Preesha is scared to tell Rudraksh that their own son is lost and was took by Revati. Rudraksh and Preesha were arguing and Rudraksh said to Preesha that they will never be soulmates again. Rudraksh realizes his mistake and runs back to Preesha, but it gets too late. Armaan injects a sedative on Preesha's shoulder. Then Preesha fell unconscious and Armaan took her.
1 year later
Armaan lived with Preesha as husband and wife. Armaan's sister, Pihu, was excited that Preesha is her new sister-in-law. As Preesha lost her memory. Armaan wants Preesha to lose her memory totally and forget her relationship with Rudraksh. Later, Saaransh, Ruhi and Rudraksh joined hands to find Preesha and they think when they find her, after that, they will also find their son and also Saaransh and Ruhi's little brother. After those events, Horror of the family begins as they find out that Armaan was killed. Rudraksh and Preesha try to find Armaan's killer that it was Revati who killed Armaan. So, Revati takes revenge on Preesha and Rudraksh. Revati stays in jail for 10 years in her life. Preesha and Rudraksh try to find their baby. But circumstances begin as Mohit's father, Subodh, kills Preesha, Rudraksh, and the whole Khurana family and himself with a bomb in his chest. They die promising one another to always be soulmates who will reunite in each life time.
20 years later
Destiny brings a reserved physiotherapist, Dr Nayantara Iyer and a famous rockstar Samrat Khurana together. Thus, begins an eternal love saga however when Samrat's ex-wife Mansi enters, she causes many problems in their lives including killing Nayantara's parents and turning Nayantara against Samrat which eventually leads to their separation.
20 years later
Nayantara now lives with Satish's mother, Toshi at Faridabad and raises her and Samrat's daughter, Kaashvi and also adopts Satish's daughter, Mahima. Kaashvi is sweet, lovely and a caring women whereas, Mahima is being greedy, cunning and a selfish women. Kaashvi is in love with her childhood friend, Arjun while Mahima is in love with Pradyuman while her marriage is fixed with Arjun. Samrat still devastated that Nayantara is dead so he returns Delhi whom meets Kaashvi as he is unaware that Kaashvi is his daughter. Samrat and Nayantara meet each other but he misunderstands that Nayantara had cheated him with another man so he starts to hates her. Samrat finds Kaashvi is Nayantara's daughter and questions her about this as Kaashvi gets injured and Nayantara confesses the truth to Samrat that Kaashvi is his daughter and reveals how she left him due to Manasi's lie.
5 years later
Kaashvi is now becomes as strict IAS officer and returns to Faridabad with her grandmother as she misses her son and Arjun but she still hates Arjun. While Arjun misses Kaashvi and is not at all happily married with Mahima as Mahima doesn’t changed her behaviour and he raises his and Kaashvi's son, Karun whom he considers Mahima as his own mother as Mahima blackmails Arjun by using Karun for fulfilling her evil purposes. Kaashvi saves Karun in an accident and he befriends with him but she is unaware that Karun is her son. Kaashvi and Arjun meets each other as Arjun gets job as a trainee in her office but Kaashvi still holds a grudge against on him. Aditya, who is Kaashvi's boss and a friend of her whom supports Kaashvi in those 5 years and it is revealed he is in love with her. Mahima learns about Kaashvi's return and she vows to keep Karun and Arjun away from her as both Kaashvi and Arjun are still unaware of Karun's truth.
Kaashvi learns about Arjun and Mahima's marriage and gets heartbroken whereas, Kaashvi learns about her child's truth from a women named, Simran who is Romila's son Micky's lover as Simran is killed by Romila after learning about her child's truth she confronts Simran's mother-in-law, Gitika (the same doctor whom helps Mahima by snatching her child Karun away from her) but she escapes as Mahima finds out this and decided to stop her from searching her son.
Production
Development and premiere
In June 2017, producer Ekta Kapoor revealed her plan for a spin-off of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein however stated, "I wanted to make a spin off of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein but it's not working out with the story line." [7] The reports of the spin-off in making was then announced in April 2018. [8] It was supposed to premiere in the same year but was delayed as the story was not finalized. [9] Then, it was reported to premiere in June 2019 and the casting for it was going on while Aakanksha Singh and Karan Vohra were reported as the leads. [10] [9] But it was scrapped in July 2019. [11] In September 2019, the series was revived and fresh casting sessions began. [12] Sargun Kaur Luthra was cast as Dr. Preesha Srinivasan and Abrar Qazi was cast as Rudraksh Khurana. [13] Talking about the series, producer Ekta Kapoor said "Yeh Hai Chahatein deals with another social issue. It's often said that it's easier for men with children to get married again, but very tough for a woman with a child to find a suitable groom." [14]
Release
The first promo of the series was released on 27 November 2019 where Sargun Kaur Luthra and Vidhaan Sharma were introduced by Divyanka Tripathi and Karan Patel as Dr. Preesha Srinivasan and Saransh Khurana. [15] The next promo was released on 16 December 2019 featuring Abrar Qazi, Luthra and Vidhaan Sharma. The series premiered on 19 December 2019 on StarPlus. [16]
Casting
Sargun Kaur Luthra was selected to play Dr. Preesha Srinivasan's character. [17] Karan Wahi was approached to play Rudraksh Khurana, but Abrar Qazi was signed by the production team. [18] Zebby Singh was potentially going to play Yuvraj Pillai before the role went to Siddharth Shivpuri. [19] Parul Chauhan was supposed to play Ahana, but Aishwarya Sakhuja replaced her. [20] When the shooting resumed after the COVID-19 outbreak, in early July 2020, Vidhaan Sharma was replaced by Yagya Bhasin as Saaransh and Gulshan Pandey replaced Vijay Kashyap as Gopal. [21]
Luthra stated that she took inspiration from Neena Gupta for her role. [22] Talking about playing a mother for the first time, she said, "When I was told that I will be playing a mother, I wasn't apprehensive at all. My only worry was that i am very young and I had to look mature on the screen which was a challenge. The team has helped me a lot to help me look a certain age and moreover with my body language to portray this character. Even Vidhaan (my on-screen son), has helped bring out the best in me. More than mother-son, we are like friends off the screen." [23]
Sakhuja was hired to portray Ahana, her first negative role. Speaking about it she said, "I have auditioned for a lot of Balaji shows and whenever I auditioned for negative roles I was told I look very positive. So, when I bagged this role, I asked them why now? They said eventually you will get to know as to why we have chosen you, and I understand because they like to surprise their audience and that's exactly what they are doing. I was figuring how to go about it, but my team is helping. After every two sentences out of habit, I go into the positive zone but I have people to handhold me and help me." [24]
In May 2021 Mister Supranational India Altamash Faraz was cast as Armaan Thakur. [25]
In July 2023, Sargun Kaur Luthra and Abrar Qazi, who had portrayed the leads roles for two generations, quit the series. [5]
Filming
Set in Delhi, the series is mainly filmed in Film City, Mumbai. On 3 August 2020, the shoot could not happen due to heavy rains in Mumbai and was cancelled. [26]
On 13 April 2021, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced a sudden curfew effective from 15 April. On 14 April, Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Telefilms decided to move all their shows' shooting to their sets at Goa. [27]
Broadcast
The production and airing of the show was halted indefinitely in late March 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India. [28] The series was expected to resume on 1 April 2020 but could not and the series was last broadcast on 24 March 2020 airing its remaining episodes. [29] [30] [31] After three months, the filming of the series resumed on 27 June 2020 while the broadcast resumed on 13 July 2020. [32] [33]
