Professor Yetunde Abosede Zaid (born 22 September 1969) [1] is a Nigerian librarian. She is the first Professor of Library and Information Sciences at the University of Lagos, and serves as the University Librarian. [2] [3] [4] [5]
Zaid was born on 22 September 1969, in Lagos. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) in 1992. Building upon this foundation, she pursued further studies, obtaining her master's degree in 1997 and Ph.D. in 2011, in Library and Information Studies from the University of Ibadan. [6] [7] [8]
Zaid is the secretary of the Lagos Studies Association and she is a member of American Library Association, African Librarians Council, International Society for Knowledge Organisation, Reference and User Services of the American Library Association, African Studies Association and Nigerian Library Association, where she served as Chairperson of the Lagos State Chapter from 2013 to 2015. Zaid joined the University of Lagos in July 2002 as a Librarian II and ascended the rank of Librarian I in 2010, she became a senior Librarian in 2013; and Reader Librarian in 2016. On 14 March 2019, she was appointed University of Lagos Librarian. [10] [11] [12] She won the African Research Fulbright fellowship in 2016 and spent nine months at the James S. Coleman Africa Studies Center, University of California-Los Angeles, United States. [13] [14] Her research interests encompass a diverse array of topics, including information resource management, information service delivery, and gender studies. Notably, she is actively involved in research project aimed at developing inclusive educational and library service delivery policies for visually impaired students in Nigeria. [15] [16] [17] With over 20 years of professional experience in managing information services, she has authored over 30 publications in esteemed journals of Library and Information Studies, earning recognition for her impactful contributions to the development of Library and Information Sciences in Nigeria. The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the Governor General of Nigeria between 1960 and 1963, and first President of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. The University of Nigeria Nsukka was formally opened on 7 October 1960. The University of Nigeria has three campuses in Enugu State–Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – and the Aba campus in Abia State.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is a public research university located in Lagos, Nigeria, which was founded in 1962. UNILAG is one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in Africa in major education publications. The university presently has three campuses in the mainland of Lagos. Whereas two of its campuses are located at Yaba, it's college of medicine is located at Idi-Araba, Surulere. Its main campus is largely surrounded by the Lagos Lagoon and has 802 acres of land. Lagos State University, popularly known as LASU, is a Lagos state government-owned university established in 1983. Its main campus is situated at Ojo, with sub-campuses at Ikeja and Epe. The university was set up "for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence". The university caters to over 35,000 students. The university was established during the administration of Late Lateef Kayode Jakande. The university offers diploma, degree and post graduate programmes, including an MBA programme. LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020. On 23 June 2021, LASU emerged as the best young university in Nigeria having been below the age of 50 years to be added. Times Higher Education ranked the Lagos State University as the second best university in Nigeria on 2 September 2020, and was the only state university included in the rankings for 2022. The university has attracted international funding, including for the establishment of a World Bank Group Africa Centre for Excellence on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Eni Njoku was a Nigerian botanist and educator. He was vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (1962–1965) and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1966–1970). He served in the Nigerian House of Representatives as federal minister of Mines and Power, and was chairman of the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria. He was an emissary at OAU-sponsored peace talks.

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, originally the Federal University of Agriculture, is a federal university in Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria was established as a specialized University by a Federal Government of Nigeria Decree No 48 of November 1992. The National Library of Nigeria came into operation in the mid-1960s with the enactment of the National Library Act of 1964 which was later replaced by Act No. 29 of 1970. Before the passage of the National Library Act, a series of educational conferences conducted in Ibadan served as the intellectual basis for the creation of a network of libraries funded by the federal government to provide accessibility of educational materials to Nigerians. A government advisory committee was later created concerning the necessity to develop a local repository of knowledge. The committee was charged with finding a way to aid the government in bringing to prominence the intellectual foundations of its policies, creating a national bibliographic center, and providing an arena for the promotion of knowledge. The committee was the first major formal body that called for a National Library as part of its recommendations. The government accepted the demands of the advisory committee and undertook the necessary steps to build a National Library.

Chinwe Nwogo Ezeani, is a Nigerian Chartered Librarian and the immediate past University Librarian of Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (U.N.N.). She is a Professor of Library and Information Science. Her tenure as a University Librarian (UL) at Nnamdi Azikiwe Library was between March 2014-March 2019. Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola OON is a Nigerian professor of medical microbiology, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. She specializes in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola was provost of College of Medicine, University of Lagos and the first woman to occupy the position. She was also the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution between 2017 and 2021. She was acting vice chancellor of the University of Lagos for a short period in 2020 when the university was plunged into crisis as a result of the removal of the Vice Chancellor by the University Council.
Nigerian Library Association (NLA) is a recognized organization for librarians and library and information science educators working in Nigeria. Its headquarters is in Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory. It was established in 1962 in Ibadan. It was birth from the West African Library Association (WALA). The NLA provides a forum for cooperation, knowledge sharing, and advocacy for the advancement of libraries and information services across the nation among librarians, information scientists, library professionals, and associated stakeholders. The main library was established in 1962 saddled with the responsibility of complementing the teaching, learning, and research of the institution headed by Professor Yetunde Abosede Zaid.
