Bei Dao is the pen name of the Chinese-American writer Zhao Zhenkai. Among the most acclaimed Chinese-language poets of his generation, he is often regarded as a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. In addition to poetry, he is the author of short fiction, essays, and a memoir. Known as a dissident, he is a prominent representative of a school of poetry known variously in the West as "Misty" or "Obscure" Poetry.

Maghiel van Crevel describes their work as "sit[ting] at the earthy end of the spectrum" of post Mao poetry in China, but strongly connected to older Chinese poetry and as "hip and disaffected" but still expressing "social concern".

The Park is the 2007 directorial debut of Chinese writer-director Yin Lichuan. Produced by Filmblog Media and Beijing Wide Angle Lens, the comedy-drama film is part of producer Lola Zhang's Yunnan New Film Project, ten proposed films by female Chinese directors. The Park is the second of the ten to be released, after Wang Fen's The Case (2007). Each of the films was required to take place in the southern province of Yunnan.

Her fiction, poetry, and translations have received recognition from the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the Best Translated Book Award, and the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation, among others. She has performed widely as a zheng harpist. Alongside her literary and artistic work, she is involved in negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution. Despite a long-held belief in pre-modern China that women lacked literary talent, women's works – particularly poetry – did win a degree of respect within Chinese literature during the Imperial period. During the first half of the 20th century, writing by women reflected feminist ideas and the political upheavals of the time. Women writers conveyed expression from a feminine perspective, as opposed to man writers who conveyed expressions from a masculine perspective.

Yu Xiuhua is a Chinese poet. She lives in the small village of Hengdian, Shipai, Zhongxiang, Hubei, China, and has cerebral palsy resulting in speech and mobility difficulties. Despite this, she still writes poetry, and as of January 2015 Xiuhua had written over two thousand poems. In 2014, her poem I Crossed Half of China to Sleep with You (穿过大半个中国去睡你) was reposted frequently in WeChat, leading to a significant increase in her notoriety. In the same year, the poem magazine, a national magazine of China, published her poetry, which made her work even more famous. Still Tomorrow a documentary about her rise to fame and relationship with her family as well as her divorce from her husband, was released in 2016, and has been showcased in different film festivals. Moonlight Rests on My Left Palm, a collection of poems and essays in writer, poet, and translator Fiona Sze-Lorrain's translation, is out from Astra House in 2021.
Winter Begonia is a 2020 Chinese television series starring Huang Xiaoming, Yin Zheng, and Charmaine Sheh, based on Shui Ru Tian Er's BL web novel of the same name. It aired exclusively on iQiyi and tells the story of the close relationship between a shrewd businessman and a Peking opera genius right before the World War II. While the original web novel depicted the relationship between the two main men as romantic, the adaptation changed this depiction into a "bromance".
Jade Ladder: Contemporary Chinese Poetry is a 2012 anthology of contemporary Chinese poetry translated into English. The collection contains more than 200 poems from 53 poets. Nearly half are previously published English translations recommended by Chinese poet Yang Lian and the poet-critic Qin Xiaoyu, while the rest are new translations by Brian Holton. Native Cantonese and Chinese speaker Lee Man-Kay also contributed to the anthology.
