Yldiz Deborah Pollack-Beighle (born 21 April 1983) [1] is a Surinamese politician who has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from February 2017 to 16 July 2020.
Pollack-Beighle was born in Paramaribo on 21 April 1983. She has a master's degree in law from the Anton de Kom University of Suriname (2009) and a master's degree in public administration and governance from the FHR Lim a Po Institute for Social Studies (2012). [2]
Pollack-Beighle worked as a youth ambassador for Caribbean Community from 2005 and in 2008 was seconded by Suriname to the Secretariat in Guyana where she was a policy officer before becoming deputy program manager for youth development in 2013. [3] [4] [2]
On 1 February 2017,Pollack-Beighle was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Dési Bouterse. [5] [6] She served until 16 July 2020. [7]
Pollack-Beighle is married to Jozef Pollack and has a daughter. [2]
Suriname,officially the Republic of Suriname,is a sovereign state in northern South America. Situated slightly north of the equator within the tropics,over 90% of its territory is covered by rainforests,the highest proportion of forest cover in the world. DesiréDelano Bouterse is a Surinamese military officer,politician,convicted murderer and drug trafficker who served as President of Suriname from 2010 to 2020. From 1980 to 1987,he was Suriname's de facto leader after conducting a military coup and establishing a period of military rule. In 1987,Bouterse founded the National Democratic Party (NDP). On 25 May 2010,Bouterse's political alliance,the Megacombinatie,which included the NDP,won the parliamentary elections,and on 19 July 2010,Bouterse was elected as President of Suriname with 36 of 50 parliament votes. He was inaugurated on 12 August 2010.
Anton de Kom University is the only university in Suriname. It is located in the capital,Paramaribo,and named for Anton de Kom,an anti-colonialist activist who was killed by the Nazis while in exile in the Netherlands.

The 1980 Surinamese coup d'état,usually referred to as the Sergeants' Coup,was a military coup in Suriname which occurred on 25 February 1980,when a group of 16 sergeants of the Surinamese Armed Forces (SKM) led by Dési Bouterse overthrew the government of Prime Minister Henck Arron with a violent coup d'état. This marked the beginning of the military dictatorship that dominated the country from 1980 until 1991. The dictatorship featured the presence of an evening curfew,the lack of freedom of press,a ban on political parties,a restriction on the freedom of assembly,a high level of government corruption and the summary executions of political opponents.
Chandrikapersad "Chan" Santokhi is a Surinamese politician and former police officer who is the 9th president of Suriname,since 2020. After winning the 2020 elections,Santokhi was the sole nominee for president of Suriname. On 13 July,Santokhi was elected president by acclamation in an uncontested election. He was inaugurated on 16 July.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Suriname was caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Suriname on 13 March 2020. The case was a person who travelled from the Netherlands the previous week. On 3 April 2020,one person died. On 3 May 2020,all nine cases had recovered. On 18 May,an eleventh case was identified.

Diplomatic relations between Cuba and Suriname were established on 23 March 1979. Suriname has an embassy in Havana since 2003. Cuba has an embassy in Paramaribo since 1981.
Gillmore AndréHoefdraad is a Surinamese economist and politician. He was Governor of the Central Bank of Suriname from 2010 until 2015,and Ministry of Finance of Suriname from 2015 to 2020. In January 2020,it was reported that US$100 million was missing from the Central Bank. In July 2021,an Interpol red notice was issued for Hoefdraad. Hoefdraad was sentenced in absentia to 12 years imprisonment on 17 December 2021.
