Yoake Dam is a gravity dam located in Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan. The dam is used for power production. The catchment area of the dam is 1440 km2. The dam impounds about 85.3 ha of land when full and can store 4050 thousand cubic meters of water. The construction of the dam was started on 1951 and completed in 1954. [1]

The Hitahikosan Line is a railway line in Japan, operated by Kyushu Railway Company. It connects Jōno Station in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture with Yoake Station in Hita, Ōita Prefecture and features the 4380 m Shakadake Tunnel between Chikuzen Iwaya and Hikosan station, where a fatal tunnel collapse occurred during construction in 1953, killing 21 construction workers. The line is named after Hita and Mount Hiko.

The 1953 North Kyushu flood was a flood which hit Northern Kyushu, Japan in June 1953. The flood was caused by cloudbursts and prolonged rain from the Meiyu rain front which dropped 1,000 mm of rain over Mount Aso and Mount Hiko.
