Ytre Oppedal is a village and ferry terminal in Gulen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It lies on the shores of the Oppedalsvika inlet along the south side of the Sognefjorden, east of where the Risnefjorden empties into the Sognefjorden. The village lies on both sides of the river Oppedalselva, which flows directly to the ferry port. The village of Brekke lies west of Ytre Oppedal, on the opposite side of the Risnefjorden.

The European route E39 highway runs north to Ytre Oppedal to the ferry quay at Ytre Oppdal where the highway crosses the Sognefjorden via MV Ampere ferry route to the village of Lavik in Høyanger Municipality where it continues to the north. The Norwegian County Road 8 (Fv8) runs from Ytre Oppedal to the east to the neighboring village of Indre Oppedal and then it keeps going east into Høyanger Municipality.

Sognefjord

The Sognefjord or Sognefjorden, nicknamed the King of the Fjords, is the largest and deepest fjord in Norway. Located in Vestland county in Western Norway, it stretches 205 kilometres (127 mi) inland from the ocean to the small village of Skjolden in the municipality of Luster.

Austreim Village in Western Norway, Norway

Austreim is a village in the municipality of Høyanger in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the north shore of the Sognefjorden, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of the municipal center of Høyanger, about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) east of the village of Kyrkjebø, and about 12.5 kilometres (7.8 mi) southeast of the village of Vadheim where there is access to the European route E39 highway. Sognesjøen

Sognesjøen is a strait in Vestland county, Norway. The strait is the outermost part of the large Sognefjorden. It runs along the border between Solund and Gulen municipalities. The 35-kilometre (22 mi) long strait begins around the village of Rutledal on the mainland of Gulen at the mouth of the Sognefjorden. The strait then flows in a southwesterly direction into the North Sea, just north of the island municipality of Fedje. The Sognesjøen is surrounded by many large and small islands. The islands of Sula, Steinsundøyna, Ytre Sula lie along the northern side of the strait. The mainland and the islands of Hiserøyna, Hille, Kversøyna, and Byrknesøyna lie along the southern side of the strait.

Norwegian National Road 13

National Road 13 is a national road which runs from the town of Stavanger in Rogaland county to the village of Sogndalsfjøra in Vestland county. The route is 449.9 kilometers (279.6 mi) long and runs south–north through Rogaland and Vestland counties, following a more inland path than the European route E39 highway.

Instefjord Village in Western Norway, Norway

Instefjord is a small village in Gulen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located at the southern end of the Risnefjorden, a small arm that branches off the main Sognefjorden. The European route E39 highway runs through the village on its way from the city of Bergen to the city of Førde. The small village of Brekke lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the northwest, and the small village of Ytre Oppedal lies about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) to the northeast. Lavik is a village in Høyanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden, approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of the city of Bergen and about 50 kilometres (31 mi) west of the municipal center of Høyanger. Lavik is situated about 40 kilometres (25 mi) west of the villages of Kyrkjebø and Austreim, and about 25 kilometres (16 mi) southwest of the village of Vadheim. In 2001, the Lavik area had a population of about 1000 people, with about 285 living in the village of Lavik.

Høyanger is the administrative centre of Høyanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The industrial village is located in a steep, narrow valley at the head of the Høyangsfjorden, a branch that flows north off the main Sognefjorden. The isolated village is connected to the rest of the country by the Norwegian County Road 55 which enters the village through tunnels which go through the steep mountains on the east and the west sides of the village. The main church for the village is Høyanger Church, which was built in 1960.

Kyrkjebø is a village in Høyanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden, about halfway between the small Vadheimsfjorden and Høyangsfjorden arms which branch off the main fjord. The village sits about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) to the west of the village of Austreim, about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) to the southwest of the village of Høyanger, and 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) southeast of the village of Vadheim, where the European route E39 highway passes through the municipality.

Ytre Sula (Solund)

Ytre Sula is an island in Solund Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies along the Sognesjøen, just west of the mouth of the large Sognefjorden. The 34.7-square-kilometre (13.4 sq mi) island is part of a large island group. It is the westernmost of the three main islands in Solund. The island of Steinsundøyna lies just east of Ytre Sula. There are no road connections to the rest of Norway. To get to the mainland, one must take a ferry connection from Ytre Sula to the smaller island of Rånøyna, cross that island and cross a small bridge to Steinsundøyna, take a bridge from Steinsundøyna to Sula, and then another ferry from Sula to Rutledal in Gulen municipality on the mainland.

Bjordal Village in Western Norway, Norway

Bjordal is a village in Høyanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located along the Fuglsetfjorden, an arm that branches off the main Sognefjorden to the north. The village sits about 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of the village of Ortnevik and about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south of the village of Kyrkjebø, located on the north side of the fjord. Norwegian County Road 92 runs through Bjordal, connecting it to Ortnevik to the northeast and to the village of Matre in Masfjorden municipality to the southwest.

Ortnevik Village in Western Norway, Norway

Ortnevik is a village in Høyanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the south side of the Sognefjorden. The village is fairly isolated since there is only one road leading to it. Norwegian County Road 92 (Fv92) comes to Ortnevik from the west. The village of Bjordal lies about 20 kilometres (12 mi) to the west along Fv92. There is also a regular car ferry connection which goes from Ortnevik to the north side of the fjord. The ferry stops at Ortnevik, Måren, and Austreim, and a couple time each day it continues from Austreim to the village of Høyanger.

Ortnevik Church Church in Vestland, Norway

Ortnevik Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Høyanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ortnevik on the south shore of the Sognefjorden. It is one of the two churches for the Bjordal og Ortnevik parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The red, wooden church was built in a long church design and a dragestil style in 1925 using designs by the architect Lars Norevik, who lived in the village. The church seats about 292 people.

Nese, Norway Village in Western Norway, Norway

Nese is a village in Vik Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the shore of the inner part of the Arnafjorden in the eastern part of the municipality. This is the site of Arnafjord Church, where there has been a church since the 1600s. This village was historically the main village around this fjord, with a shop, post office, and steamship stop. Today the population has declined to that of a very small village.

Ytre Sogn District Court was a district court in Norway which was closed in 2005. It included the municipalities located in the areas surrounding the outer Sognefjorden. This court was first established around the year 1630.
