Zaman Park is a neighborhood in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. [1] [2]

History

Zaman Park, named after Khan Bahadur Mohammad Zaman Khan, the Post Master General of Punjab in British India until 1943-44, wasn't always known by this name. [1] Earlier maps labeled the region as Punjab Light Horse (PLH) Parade Ground, part of the Cavalry Reserve in the British Indian Army. [1] [3] In 1936, the colony underwent a name change, adopting the name, Sunder Das Park. [3] The area only gained its current name and houses after the construction efforts led by Rai Bahadur Sunder Das Suri and his family. [1]

By 1942, the area witnessed the emergence of six homes, all under the ownership of a single interconnected Hindu family. [3]

Upon the occurrence of the 1947 Partition, Zaman Park was adorned with 15 grand, palatial residences, constructed by Lahore's elite Hindu families. [3] The elite of the Jalandhar Pathans, originally from Waziristan, migrated to Lahore to settle in Zaman Park. [1] [3] The family's senior member, Khan Bahadur Zaman Khan, was a maternal uncle to the mothers of Javed Burki, Majid Khan, and Imran Khan. [1]

Humayun Zaman Khan was a Pakistani sportsman who took part in soccer, hockey, and cricket. He played first-class cricket from 1956 to 1971. He captained the cricket teams of Government College University, Lahore, in 1957 and Lahore Gymkhana Club until 1975.

Ijaz Khan known as Jahaz Khan was a first class Pakistani cricketer who played for Lahore and Pakistan Railways between 1961/62 and 1973/74. Khan was described as ‘the finest off-break bowler, I faced in my entire career’ by his cousin Majid Khan, who was the leading Pakistan batsman of his era. Ijaz Khan could not convince the BCCP selectors in the 1960s, for national recognition. Instead it was his rivals, Haseeb Ahsan, Afaq Hussain, Salahuddin and his Railways colleague, Mohammad Nazir Jr who got the nod. He was employed with the Pakistan Railways from 1958 to 1980.

Babar Zaman is a former Pakistani cricketer with a career spanning over 16 years, having played for several cricket teams most notably Lahore and Pakistan International Airlines between 1985/86 and 1999/00.

Major General Bilal Omer KhanHI(M) SBt known affectionately as Billy was a two-star rank general in the Pakistan Army who died in the December 2009 Rawalpindi attack along with 39 others. He was posthumously awarded the Sitara-e-Basalat on Pakistan Day 2010. His cousin is the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. He held the positions of Director General Armoured Corps (Pakistan), Director General Plans and Operations at Joint Staff Headquarters (Pakistan), commander 11th Infantry Division (Pakistan), commander 10th Infantry Division, and commander 111th Infantry Brigade (Pakistan).

On 18 March 2023, the Punjab Police raided the residence of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Zaman Park in Lahore, Pakistan. The law enforcement agencies made several attempts to arrest Khan in connection with the Toshkhana case. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claimed that Imran Khan's residence in Zaman Park was under attack and released footage of armed law enforcement officials firing shots. The clash between PTI supporters and security forces continued for two days, during which police and Punjab Rangers repeatedly attempted to enter Imran Khan's residence with armored vehicles.
