The Zapolyarny mine is a large copper mine located in the center of Russia in Krasnoyarsk Krai. Zapolyarny represents one of the largest copper reserve in Russia and in the world having estimated reserves of 912.7 million tonnes of ore grading 0.62% copper. [1]

The Murmansk–Nikel Railway is a 206 km long railway between Murmansk and Nikel in Murmansk Oblast, Russia, primarily for freight from the nickel mine at Nikel, with the passenger service east of Kola currently suspended. The railway was completed in 1968 and is not electrified. A part was built 1936. In 1961 the line Kola - Pechenga was opened and in 1968 to Nikel.

The mine also has one of the largest manganese reserves in Romania estimated at 2.5 million tonnes of ore with an annual production of around 70,000 tonnes.

Zapolyarny District is an administrative and municipal district (raion), the only one in Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia. It encompasses all of the territory of the autonomous okrug, with the exception of the territory of the town of okrug significance of Naryan-Mar, the only other top-level administrative division of the autonomous okrug. The area of the district is approximately 170,000 square kilometers (66,000 sq mi). Its administrative center is the urban locality of Iskateley. Population: 20,432. The population of Iskateley accounts for 33.7% of the district's total population.

Mining is important to the national economy of Mongolia. Mongolia is one of the 29 resource-rich developing countries identified by the International Monetary Fund and exploration of copper and coal deposits are generating substantial additional revenue. Coal, copper, and gold are the principal reserves mined in Mongolia. Several gold mines are located about 110 kilometres (68 mi) north of Ulaanbaatar, such as Boroo Gold Mine and Gatsuurt Gold Mine. Khotgor Coal Mine is an open-pit coal mining site about 120 kilometres (75 mi) west of Ulaangom. Ömnögovi Province in the south of Mongolia is home to large scale mining projects such as the Tavan Tolgoi coal mine and the Oyu Tolgoi copper mine. Copper mining in Mongolia is a major industry and source of income for the country. There are only two companies that produce copper concentrate, Erdenet Mining Corporation, a Mongolian-Russian joint venture, and the Oyu Tolgoi mine, a joint venture between Rio Tinto Group, Turquoise Hill Resources, and the Government of Mongolia. Until 2010 copper was Mongolia's largest export.

The Ak-Sugskoye mine is a large copper mine located in the south of Russia in Tuva. Ak-Sugskoye represents one of the largest copper reserve in Russia and in the world having estimated reserves of 326 million tonnes of ore grading 6.86% copper, 1.78 million oz of gold and 13.6 million oz of silver.

The Severny mine is a large copper mine located in the north-west of Russia in Murmansk Oblast. Severny represents one of the largest copper reserve in Russia and in the world having estimated reserves of 511.2 million tonnes of ore grading 0.72% copper.

The Gumyoshevsky mine, also called Gumeshki, Gumeshevsky or Gumishevskoye mine is a copper mine located in the town of Polevskoy, in Sverdlovsk Oblast of Russia. It has estimated reserves of 48.5 million tonnes of ore grading 1.02% copper. It was called "The Copper Mountain" or simply "The Mountain" by the local populace.

Varnek is a village on Vaygach Island of Zapolyarny District, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia. It had a population of 101 as of 2010, an increase from its population of 94 in 2002.
