Zeirath is a ghost town in eastern Jasper County, Texas, United States. The town was located along the Gulf, Beaumont and Kansas City railroad between Jasper and Kirbyville. It disappeared sometime in the 1920s. [1]

James Byrd Jr. was an African American man who was murdered by three white men, two of whom were avowed white supremacists, in Jasper, Texas, on June 7, 1998. Shawn Berry, Lawrence Brewer, and John King dragged him for three miles behind a Ford pickup truck along an asphalt road. Byrd, who remained conscious for much of his ordeal, was killed about halfway through the dragging when his body hit the edge of a culvert, severing his right arm and head. The murderers drove on for another 1+12 miles before dumping his torso in front of a Black church.

Sunwapta Pass is a mountain pass in the Canadian Rockies in the province of Alberta. Sunwapta Pass is the low point of the saddle created between Mount Athabasca and Nigel Peak. The pass marks the boundary between Banff and Jasper National Parks. The Icefields Parkway travels through Sunwapta Pass 108 km (67 mi) southeast of the town of Jasper and 122 km (76 mi) northwest of the Parkway's junction with the Trans-Canada Highway near Lake Louise. The pass is the second highest point on the Icefields Parkway. Bow Summit in Banff National Park is the highest point on the parkway.

Zavala was a town in Jasper County, Texas, United States, founded in 1834. Named for empresario Lorenzo de Zavala, the town was founded on land owned by Thomas Huling and situated along the Angelina River. The approximately 40 families who lived in the town subsisted by farming or logging. The town last appeared on a list of communities in the county in 1878 and has since been abandoned. It is not to be confused with the city of Zavalla, which lies only 20 miles to the northwest, in Angelina County.

Beans is an unincorporated community in Jasper County, Texas, United States. Beans is located on the west side of the Angelina River, 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Jasper.

Ebenezer is an unincorporated community in Jasper County, Texas, United States. Ebenezer is located near Texas Recreational Road 255, 13 miles (21 km) northwest of Jasper. William P. M. and Mary Ann Dean founded the community by 1860 and established a Methodist church and cemetery by 1861. By the 1900s, Ebenezer also had a school. Both the school and the church closed by 1965; the church and cemetery were given historical markers in the 1980s.

The 2019 Houston mayoral election was decided by a runoff that took place on December 14, 2019 to elect the Mayor of Houston. Incumbent mayor Sylvester Turner defeated attorney Tony Buzbee in the runoff by 56.04% to 43.96%. No candidate won a majority of the vote during the general election on November 5, 2019 where Turner received 46% of the vote and Buzbee received 29%.
