Since 2009, ZIPDJ has been a sponsor of the CDJ Show presented by Pioneer DJ. [1]
ZIPDJ is a spin-off of Musicab, which was in operation in Canada since November 2001. MusicCab was created for use by the Canadian major record labels for the purpose of cost-effective distribution of digital promotional music, due to the rise of digital music and the diminishing traditional physical product record pools.
ZIPDJ uses a web-based delivery system to service its members promotional music from a growing list of over 4000 major and independent record labels and digital distributors worldwide, [2] including Universal Music, Warner, Ultra, and many others from around the world. [3] ZIPDJ provides secure online delivery for record labels, including real-time feedback and data collection. [4] [5] ZIPDJ members can legally download high-quality music in MP3 format, sometimes weeks or months ahead of normal commercial release timelines. [6] [7]
ZIPDJ is endorsed by the music industry, recognized by the Canadian Professional Disc Jockey Association (CPDJA), and the Canadian Disc Jockey Association (CDJA).
ZIPDJ is notable for compiling National Club, Dance, and Urban DJ charts for the countries of Canada and the United States, and is also used to compile the M.I.S. Global Dance Traxx Top 200 chart. [8] These charts are electronically compiled using data from hundreds of DJs across North America.
In 2011 through 2015, ZIPDJ was nominated for the International Dance Music Award in the category "Best Record Pool/Promo Subscription Service". [9]
A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Types of DJs include radio DJs, club DJs, mobile DJs, and turntablists. Originally, the "disc" in "disc jockey" referred to shellac and later vinyl records, but nowadays DJ is used as an all-encompassing term to also describe persons who mix music from other recording media such as cassettes, CDs or digital audio files on a CDJ, controller, or even a laptop. DJs may adopt the title "DJ" in front of their real names, adopted pseudonyms, or stage names.
Payola, in the music industry, is the name given to the illegal practice of paying a commercial radio station to play a song without the station disclosing the payment. Under U.S. law, a radio station must disclose songs they were paid to play on the air as sponsored airtime. The number of times the songs are played can influence the perceived popularity of a song, and payola may be used to influence these meters. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) treats payola as a violation of the Sponsorship Identification Rules, which requires any broadcast of paid material to include a disclosure.
The twelve-inch single is a type of vinyl gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a "single" or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs which have several songs on each side. It is named for its 12-inch (300 mm) diameter that was intended for LPs. This technical adaptation allows for louder levels to be cut on the disc by the mastering engineer, which in turn gives a wider dynamic range, and thus better sound quality. This record type, which is claimed to have been accidentally discovered by Tom Moulton, is commonly used in disco and dance music genres, where DJs use them to play in clubs. They are played at either 33+1⁄3 or 45 rpm. The conventional 7-inch single usually holds three or four minutes of music at full volume. The 12-inch LP sacrifices volume for extended playing time.

A promotional recording, promo, or plug copy is an audio or video recording distributed free, usually in order to promote a recording that is or soon will be commercially available. Promos are normally sent directly to broadcasters, such as music radio and television stations, and to tastemakers, such as DJs, music journalists, and critics, in advance of the release of commercial editions, in the hope that airplay, reviews, and other forms of exposure will result and stimulate the public's interest in the commercial release.

A DJ mix or DJ mixset is a sequence of musical tracks typically mixed together to appear as one continuous track. DJ mixes are usually performed using a DJ mixer and multiple sounds sources, such as turntables, CD players, digital audio players or computer sound cards, sometimes with the addition of samplers and effects units, although it is possible to create one using sound editing software.
A music pool or DJ record pool is a regionalized and centralized method of music distribution that allows DJs to receive promotional music to play in nightclubs and other events such as weddings, festivals and on the radio. Record labels worldwide send their newest releases to the pool of DJs; in exchange, the pool provides feedback on each release as well as exposure in the clubs and other venues they play in. DJs typically pay a monthly subscription to join the service provided by these record pools. Music pools originated as vinyl record pools in 1974 New York City, evolved into CD distribution networks, and later online music distribution between DJs. A music pool may have a "brick and mortar" office or may be entirely virtualized.
