The 2000 United States Senate election in Ohio took place on November 7, 2000. Incumbent Senator Mike DeWine won re-election to a second term. His victory made him the first Republican re-elected to the Senate in Ohio since John W. Bricker in 1952. As of 2023, this is the last time that the Republicans won Ohio’s Class 1 Senate seat.

Theodore S. Celeste is an American businessman and former politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. After serving in the Peace Corps, Celeste, the brother of former Ohio governor and U.S. ambassador Dick Celeste, ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000 and lost to the Republican incumbent Mike DeWine. In 2006, Celeste was elected State Representative of Ohio's 24th District, and served until 2012.
The Ohio Republican Party is the Ohio affiliate of the Republican Party. It was founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1854. It is currently the state's favored party, controlling the majority of Ohio's U.S. House seats, one of its two U.S. Senate seats, the governorship, and has supermajorities in both houses of the state legislature.
The 2006 United States Senate election in Ohio was held November 7, 2006. Incumbent Republican Mike DeWine ran for re-election, but was defeated by Democratic congressman Sherrod Brown. As of 2023, this is the most recent time a Democratic Senate candidate in Ohio won a race by double digits. Following his defeat, DeWine would later successfully run for attorney general in 2010 and 2014 and governor of Ohio in 2018 and 2022.

Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator George Voinovich won re-election to a second term with the highest raw vote total in Ohio history. This remains the last Ohio statewide election to date in which a candidate won every county in the state. This was the first election since 1950 that an incumbent Republican Senator from Ohio was re-elected or won re-election for this seat.

Republican nominee Mike DeWine won the open seat against Democratic nominee Joel Hyatt, Metzenbaum's son-in-law. Independent candidate, conservative anti-abortion activist Joe Slovenec performed very well, getting over 7% of the vote.

Brown's re-election is considered essential for Democrats' chances to retain the Senate majority in 2024.
The 2022 Ohio gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Ohio. Incumbent Republican Governor Mike DeWine won re-election to a second term in a landslide, defeating Democratic nominee Nan Whaley, the former mayor of Dayton, 62.4% to 37.4%. DeWine's 25-point victory marked the continuation of a trend in which every incumbent Republican governor of Ohio since 1994 has won re-election by a double-digit margin.
Several elections took place in the U.S. state of Georgia in 2022. The general election was held on November 8, 2022. A runoff election for one of Georgia's seats in the United States Senate was held on December 6, 2022. The runoff was scheduled because none of the candidates for Senate received 50% of the statewide vote in the general election. In addition to the Senate seat, all of Georgia's seats in the United States House of Representatives were up for election. Also up for election were all of Georgia's executive officers and legislative seats, as well as one seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission. The Republican Party decisively won every single statewide office in Georgia except for the Federal Senate race which narrowly went Democratic in 2022.

Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Richard Cordray who was elected in a 2008 special election ran for a full 4-year term but was defeated by Republican challenger and former 2-term United States senator Mike DeWine. Being decided by 1.2%, this was the closest statewide election in Ohio. Cordray and DeWine faced off again in Ohio's 2018 Governor election; DeWine won that election by 3.7 percentage points.

Incumbent Republican Attorney General and former 2-term United States Senator Mike DeWine was challenged by former member of the Hamilton County, Ohio Board of Commissioners and candidate for Auditor in 2010 David Pepper. DeWine won in a landslide winning 61% of the vote to Pepper's 38%, a 23-point margin of victory.
