The 2013 Council of the Isles of Scilly election took place on 2 May 2013 as part of the 2013 local elections in the United Kingdom The council is a sui generis unitary authority within the ceremonial county of Cornwall.
The whole council of 21 members was up for election, with thirteen members elected in the St Mary's electoral division and another eight from the 'Off Islands': being two each from Bryher, St Martin's, St Agnes and Tresco. Since only one candidate stood for each of six 'Off Island' seats they were elected unopposed. The Green Party of England and Wales put up candidates - the first time any party had done so, [1] but both were unsuccessful.
As with other unitary and county elections in England, these local elections in the Isles of Scilly took place for the first time since 1993 without a European or Westminster election on the same day.

The subdivisions of England constitute a hierarchy of administrative divisions and non-administrative ceremonial areas.
The Isle of Wight Council, known until 1995 as Isle of Wight County Council, is the unitary authority which governs the county of the Isle of Wight in South East England. The council is controlled by the Alliance Group, a coalition of Independent, Green, Independent Network, and Our Island councillors. Its headquarters is County Hall in Newport.

Augustus John Smith was a British politician and philanthropist who served as Lord Proprietor of the Isles of Scilly for over thirty years from 1834 until his death in 1872, as well as serving as Member of Parliament for Truro from 1857 to 1865. As Lord Proprietor of the Isles of Scilly, he introduced numerous reforms to the islands, including improvements to education, tenancy structures and employment. He built his home on the island of Tresco, and started the Tresco Abbey Gardens. He was succeeded as Lord Proprietor by his nephew, Thomas Smith-Dorrien, after his death in 1872.

The 2011 United Kingdom local elections was held on Thursday May 5. In England, direct elections were held in all 36 Metropolitan boroughs, 194 Second-tier district authorities, 49 unitary authorities and various mayoral posts, meaning local elections took place in all parts of England with the exception of seven unitary authorities, and seven districts and boroughs. For the majority of English districts and the 25 unitary authorities that are elected "all out" these were the first elections since 2007. In Northern Ireland, there were elections to all 26 local councils. Elections also took place to most English parish councils.
