The 2019 Sai Kung District Council election was held on 24 November 2019 to elect all 29 elected members to the 31-member Sai Kung District Council. [1]

Contents

The pro-democrats scored a landslide victory by taking 26 of the 29 seats in the council, with Neo Democrats becoming the largest party. The pro-Beijing camp was almost completely wiped out from the council, except for the two ex-officio rural committee chairmen and the moderate councillors led by Christine Fong.

Gary Fan Hong Kong politician

Neo Democrats political party in Hong Kong

The Neo Democrats is a pro-democracy, localist political group in Hong Kong composed mainly of former and disenchanted members of the Democratic Party New Territories East branch after the 2012 constitutional reform proposals. It had held one seat in the Legislative Council until Gary Fan lost his re-election in the 2016 Legislative Council election. However, Fan won the seat back in the 2018 by-election. It currently holds 19 seats in the District Councils.

North District Council

North District Council is one of the 18 Hong Kong district councils and represents the North District. Consisting of 22 members, the district council is drawn from 18 constituencies, which elect 18 members, along with four ex officio members who are the Ta Kwu Ling, Sheung Shui, Sha Tau Kok and Fanling rural committee chairmen. The latest election was held on 24 November 2019.
