The 2019 Eastern District Council election was held on 24 November 2019 to elect all 35 members to the Eastern District Council of Hong Kong. [1]

The pro-democrats achieved the majority of the council for the first time in a historic landslide victory amid the pro-democracy protests, taking 32 of the 35 seats in the council, with many of the pro-Beijing strongholds in North Point falling into the hands of pro-democracy independents.

Hong Kong Island (constituency) Geographical constituency in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Island geographical constituency is one of the five geographical constituencies in the elections for the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. It currently elects six members of the Legislative Council using the Hare quota of party-list proportional representation. The constituency covers all the four districts on the Hong Kong Island, namely, Central and Western, Eastern, Southern and Wan Chai. In 2020, it has 707,277 registereted voters.

Neo Democrats

The Neo Democrats is a pro-democracy, localist political group in Hong Kong composed mainly of former and disenchanted members of the Democratic Party New Territories East branch after the 2012 constitutional reform proposals. It had held one seat in the Legislative Council until Gary Fan lost his re-election in the 2016 Legislative Council election. Fan won the seat back in the 2018 by-election, but lost his seat after a court declared that he was not duly elected. It currently holds 18 seats in the District Councils.

1999 Hong Kong local elections Election

The 1999 Hong Kong District Council elections were held on 28 November 1999 for all 18 districts of Hong Kong, for 390 members from directly elected constituencies out of total 519 council members. It was the first District Council election after the handover of Hong Kong in 1997, replacing the existing Provisional District Councils appointed by Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa.

1991 Hong Kong local elections

The 1991 Hong Kong District Board elections were held on 3 March 1991. Elections were held in all 19 districts of Hong Kong for 274 members from directly elected constituencies, which counted for about two-thirds of the seats in the District Boards.

2019 Hong Kong local elections Election held in Hong Kong

The 2019 Hong Kong District Council elections were held on 24 November 2019 for all 18 District Councils of Hong Kong. 452 seats from all directly elected constituencies, out of the 479 seats in total, were contested. Nearly three million people voted, equivalent to 71 per cent of registered voters, an unprecedented turnout in the electoral history of Hong Kong. The election was widely viewed as a de facto referendum on the ongoing pro-democracy protests.

2021 Hong Kong legislative election 7th legislative election in Hong Kong

The 2021 Hong Kong Legislative Council election is scheduled on 19 December 2021 for the 7th Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo). Under the new framework imposed by the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), the electoral system was drastically changed. The total number of the Legislative Council seats would be increased from 70 to 90 seats, 20 of which are from the directly elected geographical constituencies (GCs), which were scrapped from 35; 30 seats remain from the trade-based indirectly elected functional constituencies (FCs); while an extra number of 40 seats will be elected by the Election Committee.

Andrew Chiu

Andrew Chiu Ka-yin is a Hong Kong politician, democracy activist, experienced accredited mediator and arbitrator. He is a member of the Democratic Party, strategy committee member of the Professional Commons, chairperson of Hong Kong Society of Accredited Mediators and convenor of Power for Democracy, as well as an elected member of the Eastern District Council for Tai Koo Shing West since 2008.

The 2021 Election Committee subsector elections were held on 19 September 2021 for elected seats of the 1,500 members of the Election Committee (EC) which is responsible for electing 40 of the 90 seats in the Legislative Council (LegCo) in the 2021 election and the Chief Executive of Hong Kong (CE) in the 2022 election.
