Bangalore District was a district in the state of Karnataka, India. In 1986, Bangalore District was bifurcated into Bangalore Urban district and Bangalore Rural district.

Karnataka is a state in South India. The state is in the south western region of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act. Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. The state corresponds to the Carnatic region. Its capital and largest city is Bangalore.
The South Pennar River is a river in India. Bangalore, Hosur, Tiruvannamalai, and Cuddalore are the important cities on the banks of South Pennar river. This is the second longest river in Tamil Nadu, with a length of 497km, after the Kaveri. Chandapura, Anekal, Hosur, Bagalur and Chengam are the major industrial settlements on its banks. The river is severely polluted by industrial waste as it flows through major industrial areas in the eastern suburbs of Bangalore.
Bangalore Urban district, officially known as, Bengaluru Nagara district, is a district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is surrounded by the Bangalore Rural district on the east and north, the Ramanagara district on the west and the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on the south. Bangalore Urban district came into being in 1986, with the partition of the erstwhile Bangalore district into Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural districts. Bangalore Urban has five taluks: Bangalore North (Bengaluru), Bangalore South (Kengeri), Bangalore East, Yelahanka and Anekal. The city of Bangalore is situated in the Bangalore Urban district. The district has 17 hoblies, 668 villages, 9 municipal corporations, and five talukas. Electronics City is situated in Anekal Taluka.
The South Western Railway (SWR) is one of the 18 railway zones in India, headquartered at Hubballi in Karnataka State. SWR was created from carving out the routes from Southern Railways and South Central Railways in 2003.
Bangalore is situated in the southeast of the South Indian state of Karnataka. It is positioned at 12.97° N 77.56° E and covers an area of 2,190 square kilometres (850 sq mi). A landlocked city, Bangalore is located in the heart of the Mysore Plateau at an average elevation of 920 metres (3,020 ft). The Bangalore Cantonment (1806–1881) was a military cantonment of the British Raj based in the Indian city of Bangalore. The cantonment covered an area of 13 square miles (34 km2), extending from the Residency on the west to Binnamangala on the east and from the Tanneries on Tannery Road in the north to AGRAM in the south. By area, it was the largest British military cantonment in South India. The British garrison stationed in the cantonment included three artillery batteries, and regiments of the cavalry, infantry, sappers, miners, mounted infantry, supply and transport corps and the Bangalore Rifle Volunteers. The Bangalore Cantonment was directly under the administration of the British Raj, while Bangalore City itself was under the jurisdiction of the Durbar of the Kingdom of Mysore.
Bayaluseeme or Bayalu Seeme is the area lying to the east of Malenadu, a region of Karnataka state in India. The area is largely open plain, with few hillocks. It includes the districts of Bangalore, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Dharwad, Gadag, Hassan, Haveri, Mandya, Mysore, Tumkur.
Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) is an autonomous body created by the Government of Karnataka under the BMRDA Act 1985 for the purpose of planning, co-ordinating and supervising the proper and orderly development of the areas within the Bangalore Metropolitan Region (BMR) which comprises Bangalore Urban district, Bangalore Rural district and Ramanagara District. Since 2007, BMRDA covers an area of 8,005 km (4,974 mi), the second largest metropolitan area in India, after the Amaravati Metropolitan Region. Bangalore has also emerged as India's fifth largest metropolitan city by population. Unlike the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), the BMRDA does not have the power to acquire land.
Karnataka is one of the highest economic growth states in India with an expected GSDP growth of 8.2% in the 2010–11 fiscal year. The total expected GSDP of Karnataka in 2010–2011 is about ₹2719.56 billion. Karnataka recorded the highest growth rates in terms of GDP and per capita GDP in the last decade compared to other states. In 2008–09, the tertiary sector contributed the most to GSDP, followed by the secondary sector, and the primary sector.
Chikkabanavara is a town in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. It is located in the Bangalore North taluk of Bangalore Urban district in Karnataka. It has one of the oldest surviving lakes in Bangalore. The lake is located at a distance of 1.5 km north of Chikkabanavara railway station on the Bangalore-Tumkur railway line.
The central business district of Bangalore is the area with a diameter of 20 kilometers around Vidhan Soudha. This is the center of the City and core commercial area of Bangalore which was founded by Kempegowda of the Vijaynagar Empire. Most of the land is used by commercial establishments and the Indian Army with plans of skyscrapers under works. It has multiple high-rises including World Trade Center Bangalore and UB Tower. It also includes heritage properties like the Bangalore Fort and the Bangalore Pete. The Collection in UB City is one of the first Luxury Shopping Malls of South India. The land is expensive; Brigade Road is India's sixth-most expensive street and Mahatma Gandhi Road, Bangalore is the 13th most expensive. It also houses many other high streets including Commercial Street, 100-feet Road Indiranagar as well as the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. CBD has attracted many tourists over the years as there are many facilities for them. Overall it is a simple business district with a cool and calm environment. It attracts many visitors on weekends. It has parks, government offices, many educational institutions, business houses and hotels, tourist spots, shopping destinations, stadiums, museums, temples, mosques, churches, art galleries and entertainment zones.
Bangalore Super Division is the top-division football league in the Indian state of Karnataka, started in 2001. The winner is awarded George Hoover trophy. Prior to 2001, the Bangalore A Division was the top tier.
Bengaluru Cantonment is one of the three important railway stations serving the city of Bengaluru and it is located in the locality of Vasanth Nagar and nearby to Shivajinagar. The Station started operations in 1864, with the launch of the Bangalore Cantonment – Jolarpettai train services by the Madras Railway. The train line was broad-gauge and 149 km long, connecting the Bangalore Cantonment with Vellore district. A total of 119 passenger trains start/end/pass through Bangalore Cantonment railway station. Total 499 stations are directly connected to Bangalore Cantonment railway station via these 269 passenger trains.

Cox Town is a suburb located North in the Bangalore Cantonment, named after the last Collector and District Magistrate of the Bangalore Civil and Military Station, Alexander Ranken Cox, Indian Civil Services. It is one of the suburbs which came out of the plan to de-congest thickly populated areas of the Bangalore Cantonment after the bubonic plague. Agricultural fields were converted for this purpose, and town was planned according to modern hygienic standards, with drainage and conservancy conveniences. Cox Town is bound by the Bangalore-Madras Railway line on the North and East, Wheeler Road in the East and the Ulsoor Polo Ground in the South. It consists of posh localities like Heerachand Layout and other localities like Sindhi Colony, Jeevanahalli, Doddigunta, and roads such as Assaye Road, Charles Campbell Road, Wheeler Road, etc. and is adjoining the suburbs of Fraser Town, Clevland Town and Cooke Town, with easy access to the Bangalore East Railway Station, Ulsoor, Lingarajpuram, Shivaji Nagar. Cox Town is a well planned, posh and preferred suburb in the Bangalore Cantonment, created during the British Raj. The residents of Cox Town follow a liberal 'live a let live'attitude, with suburb still retaining much of its green cover, without excessive commercialisation. In 1988, the BBMP renamed Cox Town as Sarvagnanagar, after a 16th-century saint poet. However, the name has not caught on and continues to be popularly known as Cox Town.
