Orange County is a county located in the Central Piedmont region of the Commonwealth of Virginia. At the 2020 census, the population was 36,254. Its county seat is Orange. Orange County includes Montpelier, the 2,700-acre (1,100 ha) estate of James Madison, the 4th President of the United States and often known as the "Father of the Constitution". The county will celebrate its 290th anniversary in 2024.
Huntington is a city in Cabell and Wayne counties in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The county seat of Cabell County, the city is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Guyandotte rivers. Huntington is the second-largest city in West Virginia, with a population of 46,842 as of the 2020 census. Its metro area, the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area, is the largest in West Virginia, spanning seven counties across three states and having a population of 359,862 at the 2020 census. During the 1900s, the city was a major hub for manufacturing, transportation, and Industrialization. After World War II, due to the shutdown of these industries, the city lost nearly 46% of its population, from a peak of 86,353 in 1950 to 54,844 in 1990. Both the city and metropolitan area declined in population from the 2010 census, a trend that has been ongoing for six decades. It is home to the Port of Huntington Tri-State, the second-busiest inland port in the United States.
Barboursville is a village in Cabell County, West Virginia. The population was 3,964 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area.
Barboursville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Orange County, Virginia, United States. It is the birthplace of renowned American military commander and president Zachary Taylor. It also contains Barboursville, the home of James Barbour, the 19th governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, after which the community is named. The ruins of his home are now on land owned by one of the Piedmont region's wineries, Barboursville Vineyards. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 177.
Barboursville is the ruin of the mansion of James Barbour, located in Barboursville, Virginia. He was the former U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of War, and Virginia Governor. It is now within the property of Barboursville Vineyards. The house was designed by Thomas Jefferson, president of the United States and Barbour's friend and political ally. The ruin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Hinton Historic District is a national historic district located at Hinton, Summers County, West Virginia. The original Hinton Historic District is bordered roughly by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad line, James Street, 5th Avenue, and Roundhouse. The boundary increase extended the district to include Mill Street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and revised in 2005.
The Batesville Historic District is a national historic district located at Batesville, Albemarle County, Virginia. In 1999, when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it included 33 buildings deemed to contribute to the historic character of the area. They include representative examples of the early-19th century Federal Style, the mid-19th century Greek Revival Style, simple late-Victorian styles from the late-19th century- and early-20th century, Classical Revival and Colonial Revival styles. Notable buildings include the Batesville Elementary School (1922), Batesville Public School, Mount Ed Baptist Church, Batesville Methodist Church (1861), Dr. Smith House, the Barskdale House, Hill House, and Page's Store.
The Cottage Home Historic District is a historic district and neighborhood located on the near east side of Indianapolis, Indiana. A small portion of Cottage Home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places while a larger area is listed on the state and local levels. Known for its preponderance of "cottage-style" homes built with strong Victorian influences, Cottage Home has historically been a working class neighborhood. Numerous industrial buildings are also scattered throughout the district, providing a base of economic activity. Today, however, many of these buildings are vacant, providing a special challenge to preservation and urban renewal efforts.

It encompasses 111 contributing buildings on the campus of Bethany College, the central business district, and surrounding residential areas in Bethany. Notable buildings include the Gothic Revival-style Irvin Gymnasium at Bethany College, Point Breeze Mansion, Old Opera House, Chambers General Store, and the Federal-style Hibernia Hall. Also in the district are a number of residences in popular architectural styles including Late Victorian. Located within the district are the separately listed Alexander Campbell Mansion, Delta Tau Delta Founders House, Old Bethany Church, Old Main, and Pendleton Heights.

East Wheeling Historic District is a national historic district located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 300 contributing buildings and one contributing site, including the Monroe Street East Historic District. The district is primarily residential, developed in the late-19th and early-20th century. A number of popular architectural styles are represented including Greek Revival and Gothic Revival. Notable non-residential buildings include St. Joseph Cathedral (1926), former Hazel Atlas Company building, Scottish Rite Temple designed by noted Wheeling architect Frederick F. Faris (1870-1927), Elks Building, and YMCA (1906), also designed by Faris. The contributing site is Elk Playground. Also located in the district are the separately listed L. S. Good House, Charles W. Russell House, and Cathedral Parish School.
Wheeling Warehouse Historic District is a national historic district located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The district includes 20 contributing buildings and 11 contributing structures. They are warehouses and commercial style buildings and structures between Main Street and the Ohio River. All of the buildings date to the late-19th and early-20th century. The warehouses are mostly two- and three-story masonry buildings. The two-story commercial buildings have storefronts on the first floor and residential units above. Notable buildings and structures include the Pump Store (1933), Wheeling Stamping Plant (1932), Allied Plate Glass, Warwick China, Boury Warehouse, Ott-Heiskell Company, Edward Wagner Wholesale Grocers building (1915), the Moderne style former Greyhound Bus Station, and Main Street Bridge (1891).
Helvetia Village Historic District is a national historic district located at Helvetia, Randolph County, West Virginia. It encompasses 26 contributing buildings in the village center. Some of the buildings date to the original settlement period in 1869–1870, when they were built of log construction. Later 19th-century and early-20th century buildings are of frame construction, with a number in the Carpenter Gothic style. Notable buildings include The Church (1882), Huber Inn, Post Office and Store / house (1920s), the log Swiss Museum, Star Band Hall, Cheese Haus, an original cabin (1870), Helvetia Community Hall (1939), and Rudolph's Carpenter Shop.

Notable buildings include the E.J. Madison–Barbour Rural Historic District is a national historic district located near Barboursville, Orange County, Virginia. It encompasses 775 contributing buildings, 233 contributing sites, 111 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object. The district is best known for its large estates with imposing Federal and Georgian-style mansions, but also contains exemplary groupings of agricultural buildings, vernacular dwellings, and locally significant religious, commercial, and transportation-related structures. Located in the district are the separately listed Barboursville and Montpelier.
Prince George County Courthouse Historic District is a county courthouse complex and national historic district located at Prince George, Prince George County, Virginia. The district includes 11 contributing buildings and 3 contributing objects. They include the 1883 courthouse, 1900 clerk's office, the jail dated to about 1900, and three mid 20th century Colonial Revival-style office buildings. A Craftsman-style dwelling was adapted for office use and added to the courts complex in the 1970s. The courthouse green includes memorials commemorating the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Also included in the district are the F.L. Buren Store, the Victorian-style Buren residence, and two contributing outbuildings.
