Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba is a South African politician. She is the current chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education in the National Assembly of South Africa and a Member of Parliament representing the African National Congress. Prior to serving in parliament, she was a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in the Northern Cape provincial government.

Political career

In the 2009 provincial election, Mbinqo-Gigaba was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature as a representative of the African National Congress. [1] She was re-elected for a second term in May 2014. [2]

On 1 March 2016, premier Sylvia Lucas appointed her as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the provincial department of Sports, Arts and Culture, succeeding Lebogang Motlhaping. [3] She held this position until 10 May 2017, when Lucas moved her to the public works portfolio. [4] On 1 June 2017, Lucas reversed her decision and Mbinqo-Gigaba was back as MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture. [5] During her tenure in the Northern Cape government, she was the province's youngest MEC. [6] She is also the provincial chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League. [7]

For the 8 May 2019 general election, Mbinqo-Gigaba was a candidate for the National Assembly. [8] She was elected to Parliament at the election and was sworn into office on 22 May 2019, two weeks later. [9] On 2 July 2019, she was elected chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education, succeeding Nomalungelo Gina. [10]

She has been a member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. From May 2019 to June 2020, she served as the Northern Cape MEC for Land Reform, Agriculture and Nature Conservation and Environmental Affairs. Bloem is a member of the African National Congress.

Bentley Gavin Vass is a South African politician who has been the Northern Cape MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs since February 2018. He was sworn in as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in October 2017. Vass is a member of the African National Congress and the party's deputy provincial chairperson.

Martha Bartlett is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress, she has been serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since June 2020. McCollen Ntsikelelo Jack, known as Mac Jack, was a South African educator and politician. A member of the African National Congress, Jack was appointed to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in June 2013. He served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport, Safety and Liaison from June 2013 until May 2014, when he was appointed the MEC for Health. Following a cabinet reshuffle in March 2016, he was appointed the MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism. Jack held the position until his appointment as MEC for Education in May 2019, despite him briefly being demoted from the Executive Council in May 2017.

Neo Samuel Maneng is a South African politician from the Northern Cape. He is the chief whip of the African National Congress (ANC) caucus in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature. He was elected to the legislature in May 2019. He is also the provincial secretary of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL). Maneng is seen as someone who is aligned to former premier Sylvia Lucas.

Alvin Botes is a South African African National Congress (ANC) politician from the Northern Cape who has been serving as the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation since May 2019. He became a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa in February 2018. He was the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development from 2009 to 2013 and the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs from 2013 to 2018. Botes served as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2018.

Pemmy Majodina South African politician

Pemmy Castelina Pamela Majodina is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly since 2019. A member of the African National Congress, she is the party's chief whip in the assembly. She was formerly a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature between 2004 and 2019 and a Member of the provincial Executive Council for five different portfolios from 2008 to 2019, respectively. Majodina was a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from 1994 to 2004.

Yvonne Nkwenkwezi "Pinky" Phosa is a South African politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly for the African National Congress from 2014 until 2019. She was the chairperson of parliament's Standing Committee on Appropriations from 2016 until 2019. Before her election to Parliament, she served in the Mpumalanga provincial government. Phosa is the wife of former ANC treasurer-general and previous Mpumalanga premier Mathews Phosa.

Mxolisa Simon Sokatsha is a South African accountant, educator and politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. Cukelwa Magdeline Chotelo, known as Tiny Chotelo, is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress, she was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2009. In 2013 she was appointed Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development. She was appointed MEC for Nature Conservation and Environmental Affairs in 2014. Chotelo was demoted from the Executive Council in 2018 and left the legislature in 2019.

Pauline Jeanette Williams is a retired South African politician. A member of the African National Congress, she was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2004. In 2009, she was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport, Arts and Culture. She left the legislature in 2014, only for her to return in 2015. She was then made MEC for Transport, Liaison and Safety in 2016. Williams was briefly out of the post in May 2017. In February 2018, she was made the MEC for Environmental Affairs. Williams left the legislature again in 2019.

Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni is a South African politician and educator. A member of the African National Congress, she has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison in KwaZulu-Natal since 2021.

Vusumuzi Cyril Xaba is a South African politician and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. He is currently serving as Co-Chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Defence and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans. A member of the African National Congress, he previously served in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1994 to 2009 and from 2014 to 2019. He was the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2014 to 2016.
