Tenpin bowling is a popular and recreational sport in India. The activity is administered by the Bangalore-based Tenpin Bowling Federation of India. [1] It organises the National Bowling League comprising championships for amateurs, corporate team tournaments as well as a national tour for professionals. Many Indians take up bowling for fitness, rather than for recreation. [2] Bowling alleys in India are commonly a part of multiplexes and malls. [3]

In Chennai, the sport was widely known as "snow bowling" in the late 1990s and early 2000s, owing to its presence in the 'Snow Bowling' Centre in Chennai. The term "snow bowling" has been referenced in songs such as "Dey Nandakumara" from Seenu (2000), "Oh Mama Mama" from Minnale (2001), "Sandhippoma" in Enakku 20 Unakku 18 (2003) and "Kannin Maniye" from Gambeeram (2004). [4]

In 2008, the Indian team participated in the WTBA World Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok [5] and the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Belfast. [6]

Shalin Zulkifli is a former Malaysian professional ten pin bowler and former Asian No. 1. She has played and won various national and international tournaments, and has at various points in her career ranked No. 1 of the professional ten pin bowlers in Malaysia and Asia. During 2001 World Tenpin Masters event, she became the first female champion of this event, defeating Finland's Tore Torgersen in the finals. In 2004, she was inducted into International Bowling Hall of Fame. Bowling in the USA, she was a quarterfinalist at the 2008 US Women's Open, and competed in the 2008-09 PBA Women's Series. In Southeast Asian Games, she is the most successful bowling athlete with 20 gold medals record.

Bowling is a target sport and recreational activity in which a player rolls a ball toward pins or another target. The term bowling usually refers to pin bowling though in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries, bowling could also refer to target bowling, such as lawn bowls.

Many sports are played by the people of Tamil Nadu including both traditional sports and sports from other countries.

The World Bowling Singles Championships is a Ten-pin bowling event open to members of World Bowling. This gives World Bowling a World Championship event every year, filling a void left from previous years. Each member federation can send up to two men and two women to compete. The event is split up into two separate tournaments, one for men and one for women.

Ekambaram Karunakaran Indian weightlifter

Ekambaram Kaunakaran is a former Indian weightlifter. He was the first Indian to win the Gold medal in an International Competition in weightlifting. This was in the Commonwealth games in Edmonton, Canada in 1978. Karunakaran's career spanned over a decade. He was conferred with the Arjuna Award in the year 1978-79 by the Government of India.

Shabbir Dhankot is an Indian ten-pin bowling player. In 2015 under 23rd Asian Championship, Shabbir won first-ever medal for India in any Asian Championship by winning a Silver. He had earlier won bronze in 2011 Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Team event.

P. V. Nandhidhaa Indian chess woman grandmaster

Pallathur Venkatachalam Nandhidhaa is an Indian chess player, who holds the FIDE titles of Woman Grandmaster (WGM) and Woman International Master (WIM). She is the 17th Woman Grandmaster of India and currently ranked No.7 in India.
