The Seoul Metropolitan Subway is a metropolitan railway system consisting of 23 rapid transit,light metro,commuter rail and people mover lines located in northwest South Korea. The system serves most of the Seoul Metropolitan Area including the Incheon metropolis and satellite cities in Gyeonggi province. Some regional lines in the network stretch out beyond the Seoul Metropolitan Area to rural areas in northern Chungnam province and western Gangwon province,that lie over 100 km (62 mi) away from the capital.
Gyeonggi Province is the most populous province in South Korea. Its name,Gyeonggi,means "京and 畿". Thus,Gyeonggi-do can be translated as "Seoul and the surrounding areas of Seoul". Seoul,the nation's largest city and capital,is in the heart of the area but has been separately administered as a provincial-level special city since 1946. Incheon,the nation's third-largest city,is on the coast of the province and has been similarly administered as a provincial-level metropolitan city since 1981. The three jurisdictions are collectively referred to as Sudogwon and cover 11,730 km2 (4,530 sq mi),with a combined population of over 26 million - amounting to over half (50.25%) of the entire population of South Korea at the 2020 Census.
Ansan is a city in Gyeonggi Province,South Korea. It lies southwest of Seoul and is part of the Seoul National Capital Area. It is connected to Seoul by rail via Seoul Subway Line 4. It is situated on the Yellow Sea coast and some islands lie within its jurisdiction. The largest and best-known of these is Daebu Island.
Gunpo,formerly romanized as Kunp'o,is a small city in South Korea's Gyeonggi Province,located south of Seoul in the Seoul National Capital Area. It borders Anyang to the north,Uiwang to the east,and Ansan to the south and west,and is connected to its neighbors and to Seoul by lines 1 and 4 of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway. Gunpo is also home to three stops on the Gyeongbu Line,a national railway that links it to the rest of the country. Although 73.2% of the city is greenspace,owing largely to Surisan and various smaller mountains,Gunpo is home to over 286,000 residents in several urban areas. The city's downtown core is Sanbon New Town,a commercial hub which centers on a pedestrian "street of culture" that Gunpo has designated as one of its eight scenic locations.
Gwacheon is a city in Gyeonggi Province,South Korea. It lies close to Seoul in the heart of the Seoul National Capital Area,and also lies just east of Anyang. Seoul Subway Line 4 passes through the city.
Gwangmyeong is a city in Gyeonggi Province,South Korea. It borders Seoul to the east,north and northeast,Anyang to the southeast,Siheung to the southwest,and Bucheon to the northeast.
Uiwang is a city in Gyeonggi Province,South Korea. It is one of many satellite cities that ring Seoul,making up the Seoul Capital Area. Its largest immediate urban neighbor is Anyang. The low peaks of the Gwangju Mountains shape the local landscape.
Seoul Subway Line 1 of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway is a rapid transit and commuter rail line which links central Seoul,South Korea to Soyosan Station in the northeast,Incheon in the southwest,and Sinchang via Suwon and Cheonan in the south. The central underground portion of Line 1,running underneath Sejongno,Jongno,and Wangsan-ro avenues along Seoul's traditional downtown area,is the oldest subway-operated section in the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system. Its branches and services cover a large part of the Seoul Capital Area;totaling 200.60 km (124.65 mi) in route length.
Seoul Subway Line 4 of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway is a long line crossing from the southwest to the northeast across the Seoul National Capital Area. The central section in Seoul City is operated by Seoul Metro with some trains offering through service to Korail's Ansan and Gwacheon Lines. The southern terminus (Oido) is in Jeongwang 4-dong,Siheung City,and the northern terminus (Jinjeop) is in Jinjeop-eup,Namyangju-si,Gyeonggi-do;the newly built northern section is correspondingly owned by a company owned by Namyangju-si,with operations contracted to Seoul Metro. In 2022,the Seoul Metro operated section had an annual ridership of 219,587,000 or about 601,608 passengers per day.
Geumjeong Station is a ground-level metro station on lines 1 and 4 of the Seoul Subway network in South Korea. The station is in Gunpo,a city approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) south of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province,between the cities of Anyang and Suwon. The name means that the land is covered with waves everywhere and that the water wets women's clothes.
Oido Station is a subway station on Seoul Subway Line 4 and the Suin–Bundang Line in Siheung,South Korea. It is the current southwestern terminus of Seoul Subway Line 4 located almost 30 kilometers southwest of Seoul,connecting Oido to other parts of Korea. A commuter rail trip between this station and Seoul Station takes over an hour,and a train servicing depot is located nearby. The name of the station was decided by the surrounding area Oido island.

The Ansan Line is a railway line connecting Gunpo to Siheung in South Korea. Services on this line run through train services into Seoul Subway Line 4 via the Gwacheon Line. Services from the Suin Line share tracks with this line between Hanyang Univ. (Ansan)–Oido.
Seojeongni Station is a station in Seojeong-dong,Pyeongtaek,South Korea. Mugunghwa-ho trains running on the Gyeongbu Line stop here. Additionally,services on Seoul Subway Line 1 have been calling at this station since 2005. Its station subname is Kookje College.
The Korea Rail Pass,also commonly called the KR Pass,is a rail pass offered by Korail,the national railway operator of South Korea. The pass is offered exclusively to foreign visitors and is valid for most of the rail lines operated by Korail in the designated period,including KTX,the high-speed railway in South Korea. However,the pass is not valid for subways and tourist trains,even when they are also operated by Korail.
The Korail Class 341000 trains,formerly identified as Korail Class 2000 trains,are commuter electric multiple units in South Korea used on Seoul Subway Line 4. Class 341000 trains were manufactured and delivered between 1993 and 1999 to expand service on the Gwacheon Line and the Ansan Line sections of Line 4.

The Suin–Bundang Line is a commuter rail service of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system,operating on trackage from the Suin Line and the Bundang Line. Operation began on September 12,2020.
As part of the first new town development in the early 1990s,the Gwacheon Line was built under the leadership of the Korea Railroad Administration (currently Korea Railroad Corporation) for the purpose of connecting Sanbon New Town and Pyeongchon New Town with Gwacheon City and Seoul Metropolitan City. From January 15,1993,to March 31,1994,the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 1 operated like the Ansan Line,and since the opening of all sections on April 1,1994,it has been operated as a part of the Metropolitan Subway Line 4.
