Humayun Saeed (born 27 July 1971) is a Pakistani actor and producer. [4] Saeed has appeared in dozens of Pakistani television dramas and a limited number of films and earned Lux Style Awards, [5] and ARY Film Awards. [6] Primarily known as an actor, Saeed also runs the Six Sigma Plus media production house which produces television drama serials and commercial movies. [7] [8] Additionally, he has also worked in modeling and fashion designing. [9]

Early life and family

Saeed was born on 27 July 1971 in Karachi into “a liberal and well-educated Punjabi family.” [10]

Saeed attended Nasra School in Karachi where he excelled in his studies and earned distinction throughout his academic career until matriculation. [11]

Later he enrolled himself at a prominent institution St. Patrick's College in Karachi and earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. [12] Saeed stated he was happily employed at a garments factory, as a general manager, before he got into showbiz. [11]

He described himself as "shy" when growing up. [13]

Saeed has four younger brothers, with Salman Saeed also being an actor. [14]

Career

Debut and breakthrough

Saeed began his career as a television producer in the late 80s. His maiden production did not produce favorable results. [11] [13] After stepping into showbiz, Saeed's powerful presence caught the eye of directors and he was cast in the TV shows for acting roles. He made his acting debut in 1995 with Karoron Ka Aadmi produced by Nadeem Ali Khan, [15] which was an action drama written by Zubair Abbasi and directed by his son Shamoon Abbasi, [16] followed by Ye Jahaan, a musical that was telecast in 1996. The same year he was declared best actor for his performance in Ab Tum Ja Saktay Ho, directed by Mehreen Jabbar, in which he was cast opposite Sania Saeed and Khalida Riyasat. [11]

Saeed continued doing TV productions alongside. He partnered with Sultana Siddiqui in the late 90s and then Abdullah Kadwani in 2000s for 7th Sky Entertainment. Later, he started his own production house along with "Shehzad Nasib" under the banner "Six Sigma Plus". Since then he has produced notable content for Pakistani television viewers. [17] [18]

Saeed's initial notable TV work as an actor includes Mehndi , Doraha , Kabhi Kabhi Pyar Mein, Kaafir , Uraan , Hum Se Juda Na Hona, Ladies Park and guest roles in Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan and Daam . In 2005, Saeed starred in Hadiqa Kiani's award-winning music video called Iss Baar Milo, directed by Jami. [19] [20] [21] Saeed has made appearances on reality shows like Living on the edge as a participant. He also judged a dancing reality show on ARY Digital in 2009. He has also worked in an Indian Bollywood movie Jashan in 2009 where he was given a negative role. In 2016, He gained recognition by playing Mohid in Dil Lagi among television audience. In 2020, he returned to television and played the role of Danish in drama serial Meray Paas Tum Ho , where he took all the credit for making it the best serial ever made in the history of Pakistan. The drama went so far in fame that India which is known for their movies also appreciated the performance and drama storyline. On social media Indian people reacted very positively and showed their love for Humayun openly, comparing him with their topline actor Shahrukh Khan.

In January, 2022, Saeed was cast as Dr. Hasnat Khan (known for his romantic involvement with Princess Diana), in the fifth season of The Crown. [22]

Films

Saeed made his film debut in 1999 with Samina Peerzada's movie Inteha . He portrayed the negative role in Inteha and went on to receive the National Award – Best Actor – for his role in his very first film. [23] [24] Due to poor conditions of Pakistan Film Industry at that time, he did only limited number of movies until the revival of cinema began in 2013. He has done many movies since the resurgence of cinema in 2013. These include commercially successful films such as Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, Bin Roye , [25] Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and Punjab Nahi Jaungi. His film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani holds the record of being the fourth highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time, [26] while his another film Punjab Nahi Jaungi has been declared as the second highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time and the highest-grossing film of 2017 in Pakistani cinema. [27] In 2018, he starred in film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 . As of 2019, the film is the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time. After its huge box office success, he announced three more films in an interview with Dawn Images, saying that third film in JPNA franchise is in plans to be out "in two years", while he added, "We're working on two other films, one's being written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and the other by Vasay Chaudhry." [28] In 2022, he appeared in Nadeem Baig's London Nahi Jaunga. [29]

Awards

Saeed has received numerous award nominations and honours including a minimum of 5 Lux Style Awards. [30] He received special recognition awards at Pakistan Achievement Awards 2015 UK and Europe [31] and at fourth Hum Awards in 2016 for his invaluable contribution towards revival of Pakistani cinema. [32] [33] Saeed's film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani swept the ARY Film Awards ceremony with total of 17 awards, also earning him the award for the best male actor in a leading role. [6] He was awarded the Pride of Performance by the President of Pakistan on 23 March 2021. [34]

Sohai Ali Abro is a Pakistani actress, dancer and model, who appears in Pakistani television serials and films. She is known for her roles in serials such as Geo TV's Saat Pardon Mein (2012), Hum TV's Tanhai (2013), Khoya Khoya Chand (2013), Rishtay Kuch Adhooray Se (2013) and ARY Digital's serial Pyaray Afzal (2014). Abro made her film debut with a supporting role in the 2013 romantic drama Anjuman. Her performance earned her a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category at Tarang Housefull Awards. Hayat had since starred in the comedies Punjab Nahi Jaungi (2017), Load Wedding (2018), and London Nahi Jaunga (2022), all of which rank among one of highest-grossing Pakistani films.

Vasay Chaudhry is a Pakistani screenwriter, actor, director, producer, host, and comedian. He is best known for writing sitcoms and comedy-dramas for Pakistani televisions. He is also known for writing films. He wrote Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. While Mai Hoon Shahid Afridi was an average success, Jawani phir Nahe ani went on to become the highest grossing film of Pakistan cinema and broke all the previous Box office records while earning more than 490 million at the box office. He also wrote Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, which was released on 2018 Eid al-Adha and broke the all time biggest box office grosses record.It also went on to become the First Pakistani film to make 700 Million rupees worldwide. Chaudhry is also known for hosting the comedy show, Mazaaq Raat, on Dunya News since 2015.

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, sometimes abbreviated as JPNA is a 2015 Pakistani adventure comedy film directed by Nadeem Baig. It was co-produced by Humayun Saeed, Salman Iqbal and Shahzad Nasib at Saeed's production house, Six Sigma Plus. It is the first installment in the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani film series. The film stars Humayun Saeed, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahmad Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry and Mehwish Hayat. The supporting cast includes Sohai Ali Abro, Jawed Sheikh, Ismail Tara, Bushra Ansari, Ayesha Khan, Sarwat Gillani and Uzma Khan. The film is about a single man who is a divorce lawyer. He takes his three married friends on a trip to help them escape their wives and the monotony of their lives.

Rabia Iqbal Khan known by her stage name Kubra Khan is a British-Pakistani actress who works in Urdu television and films. She made her debut in 2014 with the film Na Maloom Afraad. Khan is described among the nation's highest-paid actresses by the media.

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, sometimes abbreviated as JPNA 2, is a 2018 Pakistani Urdu-language romantic comedy film, directed by Nadeem Baig and written by Vasay Chaudhry. It is a joint venture of Salman Iqbal Films, Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib's Six Sigma Plus, and Jerjees Seja's ARY Films. It is sequel to the 2015 film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, and the second installment in Jawani Phir Nahi Ani film series. Punjab Nahi Jaungi, is a 2017 Pakistani romantic comedy film directed by Nadeem Baig and written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar. It stars Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat alongside Sohail Ahmed, Saba Hameed ,and Urwa Hocane in pivotal roles. The story is about a love triangle between the lead characters, and also exhibits the Punjabi culture of Pakistan. A spin-off, titled London Nahi Jaunga, was released to mixed reviews in 2022.
