The Indonesia Ice Hockey Federation (Indonesian : Federasi Hoki Es Indonesia; abbreviated as FHEI) is the governing body of ice hockey in Indonesia. The federation joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) as an associate member on May 20, 2016. [1] [2]

History

The Indonesian Ice Hockey Federation (FHEI) is the national ice hockey sports organization in Indonesia. FHEI has been registered as a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), an international body that oversees the sport of ice hockey and the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI). [3]

This sport grew and developed in Indonesia, starting with the introduction of inline skating in the 90s. Not long after inline skating became popular in society, the era of inline hockey began. This is marked by the many exhibition events held up to national level championships. [3]

FHEI Journey Ice Hockey itself has a similar story, this sport became known to the public when Indonesia first had an ice rink located in a shopping area in Jakarta in 2001 and now there are several more ice rinks located in several states. [3]

The development of ice hockey in Indonesia over the last 2 decades has provided a new color for the growth of ice hockey in Asia. Indonesia is starting to become known internationally as one of the countries in Southeast Asia with a tropical climate that participates in sports that were previously only played by countries with winter seasons. [3]

Programs

In running its organization, FHEI follows directions from the IIHF which requires its members to roll out competitions such as ice hockey leagues (Indonesia Ice Hockey League – IIHL), international tournaments ( Indonesia Invitational Ice Hockey Tournament – IIHT), as well as several other programs such as the introduction of hockey. ice among children ( Hockey Intro to Children ) in collaboration with schools, youth development programs ( Youth Development Program ), and referee development and certification programs (Officiating Development Program). [3]

National teams

FHEI also produces a national ice hockey team that takes part in annual tournaments organized by the IIHF or International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Indonesian National Ice Hockey Team (Indonesian : Tim Nasional Hoki Es Indonesia) is an associate member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). [4] The team and have not entered in any World Championship tournaments or at any Olympic Games, but have played in Asian Winter Games, Challenge Cup of Asia & Southeast Asian Games in Men’s and U20 tournaments. [4] Currently, FHEI controls the men's senior and under-20 national teams.

The senior national team was first launched in 2016 in order to compete at the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan. [5] [6] [7] They made its debut in the Second Division of the competition, hence its debut in international competitions.

Indonesia won Bronze at the 2018 Challenge Cup of Asia Division I in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 24-29 March 2018 and at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 Challenge Cup of Asia Division I in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 3-6 December 2018. [4]

Ice hockey in Indonesia is a minor but growing sport. Ice hockey was first played in Indonesia in 1996 when the country's second indoor rink, the Sky Rink, opened at the Mall Taman Anggrek in Jakarta. The country's first ice rink, the Plaza Senayan, had been built in the 1980s. Two more rinks have recently opened, the Gardenice Rink in Bandung and the BX Rink (24-by-55-meters) at the Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall in Tangsel. The Indonesia Ice Hockey Federation known in Indonesian as the Federasi Hoki Es Indonesia (FHEI) was founded in 2012 and it joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) as an associate member on May 20, 2016.

The 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship Division I was an international inline hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division I tournament ran alongside the 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship tournament and took place between 25 June and 1 July 2017 in Bratislava, Slovakia at the Ondrej Nepela Arena Rink 2 and Ondrej Nepela Arena. The tournament was won by Slovenia who upon winning gained promotion to the 2019 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship. While New Zealand and Brazil were relegated to the Qualifications after losing their placement round games along with Hungary who lost the relegation game against Argentina.

Konstantin Mihailov is a Bulgarian former professional ice hockey and roller in-line hockey goaltender. He played in 28 Ice Hockey World Championships with the Bulgaria men's national ice hockey team, and three IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships with the Bulgaria men's national inline hockey team, then retired from international play at age 51. His lengthy international career was recognized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) with receipt of the Torriani Award, which inducted him into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2019.

The 2019 IIHF U20 Challenge Cup of Asia Division I was an international men's under-20 ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The tournament took place between 3 December and 6 December 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was the first edition held under the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia series of tournaments. The tournament made up the second level of competition sitting below the 2019 IIHF U20 Challenge Cup of Asia. Thailand won the tournament after finishing first in the standings. Mongolia finished in second place and Indonesia finished third.
