Kakapora railway station is a railway station in the Northern Railway zone of Indian Railways. It is one of the four stations in Pulwama district, others being Awantipora railway station, Pampore railway station and Panzgam railway station respectively.

Location

The station is situated in notified area of Kakapora in Pulwama district about 20 km south of Srinagar.

History

The station has been built as part of the Jammu–Baramulla line megaproject, aiming to link the Kashmir Valley with Jammu Tawi the rest of the Indian railway network. The Leg 2 section of this network is incomplete. It is expected to be completed by 2017.

Design

Like every other station in this mega project, this station also features Kashmiri wood architecture, with an intended ambience of a royal court which is designed to complement the local surroundings to the station. Station signage is predominantly in Urdu, English and Hindi.

The 2019 Pulwama attack occurred on 14 February 2019, when a convoy of vehicles carrying Indian security personnel on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethapora in the Pulwama district of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack killed 40 Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel as well as the perpetrator—Adil Ahmad Dar—who was a local Kashmiri youth from the Pulwama district. The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based Islamist terrorist group, Jaish-e-Mohammed. India blamed neighbouring Pakistan for the attack, while the latter condemned the attack and denied having any connections to it. The attack dealt a severe blow to India–Pakistan relations, consequently resulting in the 2019 India–Pakistan military standoff. Subsequently, Indian investigations identified 19 accused. By August 2021, the main accused along with six others had been killed, and seven had been arrested.

Rahmoo, officially Romu, is a small town 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) west of Pulwama in the Indian-administered Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, believed to be founded by a famous Islamic saint namely Hazrat Ruma Reshi(RA). It is one of the largest villages in the district by area and population. It is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) from summer capital Srinagar. Rahmoo is situated 5,922 feet (1,805 m) above sea level. Zainapora is a village in Shopian district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is also known as land of springs because of its countless springs. Zainapora is located 19 km (12 mi) from district headquarter Shopian, 4 km (2.5 mi) from Aglar, 17 km from Pulwama, and 63 km (39 mi) from the capital Srinagar.

Akhal is a small village in Pulwama district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, about six kilometres south-west of the main town of Pulwama. It is approximately 30 kilometres away from summer capital Srinagar by road. Akhal is considered the main producer of good quality apples in Pulwama district and is one of the first villages in the area to inherit high-density apple farms. The main source of income is agriculture. Akhal acquires its basic utilities from nearest villages like Rahmoo, Rajpora and Drabgam.

Aglar is a notified area and a town in Zainapora Sub District of Kashmir. It is situated on the left bank of Rambi Ara which demarcates between Pulwama district with Shopian district. Aglar is located 13 km (8.1 mi) towards east from Pulwama, 4 km (2.5 mi) from Zainapora and 18 km (11 mi) towards west from Anantnag. Aglar is 3rd most populous town, located in Zainapora sub district of the state Jammu & Kashmir in India and 3rd biggest town by area in the sub district. The Pin code of Aglar is 192305.
