The Kumite 1 League (K1L) is a mixed martial arts league and martial arts promotion, based in Mumbai, India. The league is supported by the World Kickboxing Network [1] [2] and backed by Toyam Industries. [3] Kumite 1 League debuted its inaugural season on 28 September 2018 in Mumbai and Mike Tyson was appointed as the brand ambassador of the event. [4] [1] [5]

History

Kumite 1 League was founded by Mohamedali Budhwani in 2017, with the purpose to promote and popularise the sport of Mixed Martial Arts in India. [2]

Events

Kumite 1 League 1.0 was the introductory event held at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) Dome, Mumbai on 28 September 2018, [4] in the presence of brand ambassador Mike Tyson. [6] The event was attended by international sports and entertainment personalities from India. [7] The event was broadcast in India on Sony ESPN, Sony ESPN HD and Sony Liv [8] and it was beamed across more than 80 countries. [9]

Bappi Lahiri composed a special jingle for Mike Tyson during his visit to India. [10] Music composer Asif Panjwani created the theme music for Kumite 1 League. [11] The MMA champion Nelson Paes won the Kumite 1 League's championship. [12] The inaugural season was won by Nelson Paes. [12]

Kumite 1 Warrior Hunt

Toyam Industries Limited has launched Kumite 1 Warrior Hunt, which is India's first-ever MMA Talent Hunt & Sports Reality Show streaming as a Web Series on MX Player. Kumite 1 Warrior Hunt is seeking two of the top mixed martial arts (MMA) one male and one female champion athlete. [13] [14]

Allegheny Shotokan Karate is a Western Pennsylvania-based martial arts school established in 1969 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Stamp Fairtex Thai martial artist

Nadthawan Panthong, known professionally as Stamp Fairtex, is a Thai Muay Thai kickboxer and mixed martial artist. She is currently signed to ONE Championship, where she is ranked #1 in the ONE Championship Women's Atomweight rankings. She is the organization's first two-sport world champion, having held the ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Championship and ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Championship.

Kyle Nelson is a Canadian mixed martial artist who competes in the UFC Featherweight division. He previously competed for the RXF promotion, as well as Elite 1 MMA. Nelson is a former featherweight champion in Elite 1 MMA.

In kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA), "freak show fight" is an idiom for a bout featuring a deep disparity in skill, experience or weight between the fighters. This kind of matchup was common in the early period of mixed martial arts history, but it has become increasingly rare due to the regulation of athletic commissions and the implementation of official weight classes. However, freak show fights remain particularly associated in popular culture to Japanese promotions, where they are still occasionally hosted. Those bouts are usually a source of controversy among pundits, as they are perceived to elevate spectacle over true competition, but they retain a measure of acceptance among wide audiences due to their entertainment value.

Vinicius Moreira Castro is a Brazilian mixed martial artist currently competing in the Light heavyweight division. He is most known for his time spent fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Priyanka "Jeet" Toshi is an Indian mixed martial artist and boxer based in Bahrain. She is the first female MMA fighter to represent India professionally at ONE Championship in 2012. In 2019, she became the first female professional boxer to represent Bahrain at international level.
