List of cities, towns and villages in Cyprus

This is a list of settlements in Cyprus . The English name is indicated first, followed by the Greek and Turkish names, in turn followed by any former names, including ones used in antiquity. Note that even though, prior to the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, Turkish names existed for some villages/towns, due to political reasons, most of the villages/towns were given a different Turkish name. The largest cities in Cyprus, in order from largest, are Nicosia (capital), Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Famagusta and Kyrenia.

Most of the Turkish names were established in 1958, [1] then some of them were changed after the 1974 invasion (e.g. Kourou Monastiri in Nicosia District).

Pano Lefkara is a village on the island of Cyprus famous for its lace, known as lefkaritika in and silver handicrafts. The village takes its name from the white of its silica and limestone: Lefkara is derived from a combination of the Greek words "lefka" and "ori". It has been listed among "The 30 most beautiful towns in Europe" by the Japanese Association of Travel Agents.

Geroskipou is a coastal village in Cyprus, east of Paphos. Its current population is approximately 7,000 and it is the second largest municipality in the Paphos District. Yeroskipou, with its remarkable five-domed Byzantine church of Agia Paraskevi, and its Folk Art Museum, is a popular tourist destination. It is known especially for the production of the confectionery "lokum". The town is the only place in the world which has protected geographical indication (PGI) for the popular dessert.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Operation Atilla (Turkish Invasion of Cyprus)</span>

In 1974, Turkey invaded the northern portion of the Republic of Cyprus in response to a military coup taking place on the island, in attempt to annex the island to Greece. Turkey claimed that this was an intervention in accordance to Treaty of Guarantee. The invasion consisted of two major Turkish offensives, and involved air, land and sea combat operations. The Greek Cypriot armed forces attempted to resist and respond to the attacks as part of a coordinated defence plan which proved inadequate to deal with the forces that Turkey was able to bring to bear, and the war resulted in a ceasefire which persists until the present day.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Cyprus Government Railway</span>

The Cyprus Government Railway was a 2 ft 6 in narrow gauge railway network that operated in Cyprus from October 1905 to December 1951. With a total length of 76 miles (122 km), there were 39 stations, stops and halts, the most prominent of which served Famagusta, Prastio Mesaoria, Angastina, Trachoni, Nicosia, Kokkinotrimithia, Morphou, Kalo Chorio and Evrychou. The CGR was closed down due to financial reasons. An extension of the railway which was built to serve the Cyprus Mines Corporation operated until 1974.

The wine route within wine-producing regions, are marked and advertised roads with special signs, along which insist natural, cultural and environmental values, vineyards and cellars of individual or associated farms open to the public. They constitute an instrument through which the wine territories and their productions can be disclosed, marketed and used in the form of a tourist offer.

Kalo Chorio Kapouti is a village in Cyprus, near Morphou, and 32 km north-west of Nicosia. The village is connected to Diorios, another village to the north. De facto, it is under the control of Northern Cyprus.

The Linobambaki or Linovamvaki were a Crypto-Christian community in Cyprus, predominantly of Catholic and Greek Orthodox descent who were persecuted for their religion during Ottoman rule. They assimilated into the Turkish Cypriot community during British rule.
