London is an unincorporated community in Kanawha County in the U.S. state of West Virginia, located 25 miles from the state capital of Charleston. [2] London Lock and Dam, operated by US Army Corps of Engineers is located here on Kanawha River.

Located in London is the former Booker T. Washington High School, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. [3] John Wesley Conley (1820–1874), the grandfather of historian Phil Conley, died in London.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bougemont Complex</span> Historic house in West Virginia, United States

Bougemont is a historic home located at Charleston, West Virginia. It was the home of two prominent families in Charleston's business development. It was built about 1916 by Harrison Brooks Smith, an attorney, who served as president of Kanawha Banking and Trust and various companies in Kanawha County. Smith died in 1942, and in 1959, Horace Hamilton Smallridge, another leading Charleston businessman, purchased the property. Bougemont is symmetrically arranged with a 2+12-story central block and two single-story side wings. The entrance facade features a pedimented portico with Corinthian columns. Also on the property are a cottage, stable, and barn.

Charleston City Hall is a historic city hall located at Charleston, West Virginia. It was constructed in 1921 in the Neoclassical style. It is located opposite the Kanawha County Courthouse, at the center of downtown Charleston. The major, or entrance, elevation faces Virginia Street with monumental design features and walls clad in smooth gray limestone. The equally impressive limestone-faced Court Street facade presents a grand prospect which runs southward for nearly a block between Virginia Street and Kanawha Boulevard. These two elevations are entirely formal in design because they were intended to face the courthouse and principal city thoroughfare. The four-story building is centered with a colossal engaged colonnade of six fluted Doric columns, which rises three-stories in support of a massive cornice. The interior features a grand entrance lobby, and classically designed stairhall and council chambers.

East Hall is a historic home located on the campus of West Virginia State University at Institute, Kanawha County, West Virginia. It was built in 1893, and is a modest, two-story frame building with a hipped roof. In 1937, it was moved from the east side of campus to the west quadrangle. Until 1974, it was the official home to presidents of West Virginia State University and is the oldest building on campus.

Booker T. Washington High School, also known as Grant Junior High School and Grant Elementary, is a historic high school building located near London, Kanawha County, West Virginia. It was built in 1925, and is a two-story, "L"-shaped wire brick building with a rear section in tile block and brick. It is in the Streamline Moderne style. It was built as a high school for African American children during the period of segregated educational facilities. After desegregation in 1956, it was used as a junior high school, then an elementary school. The school closed in June 1986, and is now used as a community center. It was one of two early high schools for African Americans in Kanawha County.

St. Albans Site is a historic archaeological site located near St. Albans, Kanawha County, West Virginia. It was a camping site for prehistoric peoples between c. 12,000 B.C. and A.D. 1700. Excavations in 1964–1965, yielded projectile points ranging in age from 7900 t o 6210 B.C.
