The New Virginians was a musical group from Virginia Tech founded in 1972. Its founder and first director was Stan Kingma, who had directed the Virginia Tech Glee Club, later called the Showmen, which was the nucleus of choral music singing at Virginia Tech. The group featured 24 singer/dancers, a 12 piece showband, a technical staff and a public-relations staff focused on a musical variety show which toured Virginia and surrounding states as "musical ambassadors of Virginia Tech" in shows hosted by civic groups, conventioneers, and sometimes the university itself. The group was known on campus for its annual "Homeshow" which was presented each spring and Christmas show during the holiday which benefited a local charity.

Miss America 2018, the 91st Miss America pageant, though the Miss America Organization celebrated its 97th anniversary in 2017. This discrepancy is due to no national pageants being held from 1928 to 1932 or in 1934 because of financial problems associated with the Great Depression. The 2018 pageant was held in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Sunday, September 10, 2017. This was the first Miss America pageant to be held in Atlantic City since the Miss America Organization headquarters relocated to Boardwalk Hall.

Miss World America 1980 was the 3rd edition of the Miss World America pageant and it was held in Studio 54 in New York City, New York and was won by Brooke Alexander of Hawaii. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Carter Wilson of Virginia. Alexander went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1980 Pageant in London later that year. She finished as 6th Runner-Up at Miss World.

Miss World America 1978 was the 1st edition of the Miss World America pageant and it was held in Von Barun Civic Center in Huntsville, Alabama and was won by Debra Jean Freeze of North Carolina. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Cindy Darlene Miller of Virginia. Freeze went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1978 Pageant in London later that year. She finished in the Top 15 at Miss World.

Miss World America 1979 was the 2nd edition of the Miss World America pageant and it was held in Reichhold Center for the Arts in Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands and was won by Carter Wilson of Virginia. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Debra Jean Freeze of North Carolina. Wilson went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1979 Pageant in London later that year. She finished in the Top 15 at Miss World.

Miss World USA 1976 was the 15th edition of the Miss World USA pageant and it was held in Boston, Massachusetts and was won by Kimberly Marre Foley of Michigan. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Annelise Ilschenko of Ohio. Miller went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1976 Pageant in London later that year. She did not place at Miss World.

Miss World USA 1974 was the 13th edition of the Miss World USA pageant and it was held in Binghamton, New York and was won by Terry Ann Browning of Florida. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Lexie H. Brockway of Washington. Browning went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1974 Pageant in London later that year. She finished as 4th Runner-Up at Miss World.

Miss World USA 1967 was the 6th edition of the Miss World USA pageant and it was held at the Baltimore Civic Center in Baltimore, Maryland and was won by Pamela Valari Pall of California. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Denice Estelle Blair of Utah. Pall went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1967 Pageant in London later that year. She finished in the Top 15 at Miss World.

Miss USA World 1966 was the 5th edition of the Miss USA World pageant and it was held at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus, Ohio and was won by Denice Estelle Blair of Utah. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Dianna Lynn Batts of the District of Columbia. Blair went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1966 Pageant in London later that year. She finished as 6th Runner-Up at Miss World.

The Miss Virginia World competition is a beauty pageant that selects the representative for Virginia in the Miss World America pageant.
