Notable buildings include the Braxton County Courthouse (1881-1882) and Jail (1905), Sutton Bank Building (1891), Farmers Bank and Trust (1909), Bank of Sutton, Methodist Episcopal Church, South (1896), Kelly / Fisher House. Elk / Midway Hotel (1894), and Katie B. Frame Residence. The two structures are the Bridge over Old Woman Run (1892) and Bridge over Elk (1930).

Empire Oil Building, and Myles Manufacturing Co., Inc.. Also located in the district is the separately listed Silas P. Smith Opera House.

It encompasses 313 contributing buildings and two contributing structures, the Ohio River Rail Road Steel Pratt-through truss Bridge and Concrete bridge on State Route 68 over Sandy Creek. It includes the commercial and civic core of the town, and surrounding residential buildings. It includes example of popular architectural styles of the mid- to late-19th and early-20th century, including Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Italianate, Craftsman, and Bungalow. Notable buildings include the McIntosh Building, First Baptist Church, Randolph Building/Caldwell Building (1907), the Grace Episcopal Church ; Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ravenswood Community Center (1938), and McIntosh House.

Also located in the district is the separately listed Cottrill Opera House (1902).

Alderson Historic District is a national historic district located at Alderson, Greenbrier County and Monroe County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 196 contributing buildings and three contributing sites located in the commercial district and surrounding residential section. They are predominantly 19th and early 20th century frame detached residences and masonry commercial buildings including notable examples of the Federal, Greek Revival, and Queen Anne styles. Notable buildings include the Woodson Mohler Grocery building, Johnson and Gwinn warehouse, Greenbrier Mill, First National Bank building, Alderson's Store, Chesapeake and Ohio depot, U.S. Post Office, and the City Hall (1939). The Alderson Ferry Site is for the ferry established 1789. Located in the district is the separately listed Alderson Bridge.
William Gaston Caperton Jr. House, also known as "Wyndridge," is a historic home and national historic district located near Union, Monroe County, West Virginia. The district includes nine contributing buildings. The main house was built in 1872, and is a large, almost square, two-story hipped roof Georgian plan house. The front facade features a one-story portico that is Greek Revival in form. The 1872 house incorporates two two-story late 18th century log structures and the early pioneer 1773 Blanton House. Also on the property are the contributing log ice house and log smoke house, barn with vertical siding, a cattle scales and a machine shed, carriage shed, and a shed. Gaston Caperton, who served as Governor of West Virginia from 1989 to 1997, is a descendant of William Gaston Caperton Jr.

The district is primarily residential, developed in the late-19th and early-20th century. A number of popular architectural styles are represented including Greek Revival and Gothic Revival. Notable non-residential buildings include St. Joseph Cathedral (1926), former Hazel Atlas Company building, Scottish Rite Temple designed by noted Wheeling architect Frederick F. Faris (1870-1927), Elks Building, and YMCA (1906), also designed by Faris. The contributing site is Elk Playground. Also located in the district are the separately listed L. S. Good House, Charles W. Russell House, and Cathedral Parish School.

The District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The district includes 1,110 contributing buildings, 5 contributing sites, 2 contributing structures, and 3 contributing objects. It is a largely residential district consisting of two-story, frame detached dwellings built in the mid- to late-19th and early-20th century, including the Irwin-Brues House (1853) and a number of houses on Zane Street. The houses are representative of a number of popular architectural styles including Bungalow, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival. Notable non-residential contributing properties include the Exposition Building (1924), Thompson United Methodist Church (1913-1915), Madison School (1916), firehouse (1930-1931), the Bridgeport Bridge (1893), the Aetnaville Bridge (1891), "The Marina," Wheeling Island Baseball Park, and "Belle Island Park." It includes the separately listed Wheeling Suspension Bridge, Harry C. and Jessie F. Franzheim House, and John McLure House.
Franklin Historic District is a national historic district located at Franklin, Pendleton County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 111 contributing buildings, mostly residences. It also includes the central business district, much of it rebuilt after a fire in 1924. Most of the residences are in the Queen Anne or American Foursquare style, with commercial Greek Revival and Italianate-style buildings. Notable buildings include an early 19th-century, stuccoed stone farmhouse and barn, five Queen Anne style dwellings, and the Pendleton County Court House (1924-1925). Also located in the district is the separately listed McCoy House.

The area was created with the integration of 12 distinct subdivisions platted between 1882 and 1943. The dwelling styles include the late-19th and early-20th-century vernacular, Queen Anne, Italianate, and Colonial Revival farm dwellings. A notable number of these dwellings are prefabricated kit or mail-order houses.
Powhatan Courthouse Historic District is a county courthouse complex and national historic district located at Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. The district includes four contributing buildings. The Powhatan County Court House was built in 1848–1849, and is a stuccoed temple-form Greek Revival style building measuring approximately 40 feet by 54 feet. There is strong circumstantial evidence that it is the work of Alexander Jackson Davis. Associated with the courthouse are the contributing former clerk's office, a "T"-shaped brick structure dated to the late-18th century; the early-19th century former jail; and Scott's or Powhatan Tavern, a large late-18th century tavern, a 2 1/2-story, brick structure.

The primarily residential area developed starting in the early-20th century as one of the city's early "streetcar suburbs." The buildings are in a variety of popular late-19th and early-20th century architectural styles including frame bungalows, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and Mission Revival. There are a remarkable group of unusually large, architect-designed houses and churches. Notable non-residential buildings include St. Bridget's Catholic Church (1950) and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Located in the district is the separately listed Green's Farm (Huntley).
